Nice to see that Arjun 120 mm rifled gun has increased its muzzle velocity to 1700 m/s from earlier 1650 m/s.

Seeing the barrel life of the T72 and T90 barrels, I can see the possible logic in believing Arjuns Rifles gun is superior in the eyes of the babus and generaals
Barrel life is dependent on the ammunition it fires. Typically the EFC values of APFSDS round is least and that of HESH round is maximum. Here however, it is not specifically mentioned which round, so we assume it is the APFSDS round.

Can't they use the superior metallurgy of the Arjuns barrel and make a superior 125mm barrel with better lifespan than the existing one, as usually smoothbore guns have a better lifespan that rifled barrels for obvious reasons.

Turns out those t 72/t 90 barrels have been discontinued and the website has not been updated. Using metallurgy from arjuns barrel they’ve made the barrel shown in the tweet.

Complete bs. Even the Rheinmetall L/55 can not handle high chamber pressure!! It's highly likely that Kunal had the chamber pressure confused with the autofrettagation pressure. And neither was the original 2A46M ever rated for 670 MPa!! Kunal fucked up real bad on this one.

Do you want me to convey anything on your behalf for clarification?
You may do as you please. I'm okay either way. But know this, he got the values wrong, I'm absolutely certain about it. Because neither the original 2A46M (not M-1, don't know where he got that from) was rated for 670 MPa (it was 550 or 570 maybe) nor the Rheinmetall L/55 can handle 800 MPa chamber pressure (rated for 750) even when it's autofrettaged at 1200 MPa pressure whereas the Arjun's gun is done at 840!!

That was true for the T-72M1s which we had received back in the days. The T-90S on the other hand has got better armor protection as compared to the A model.

Yes, it's absolutely true because the armor technology (along with that of the 2A46M2 main gun) was not part of the original ToT, so we had to make do with our own inserts instead.

what a load of BS.
the indian T-90S are downgraded versions of T-72B in terms of armour and gun, retrofitted with kanchan armour. thats why they are heavier than russian T-90A while providing the same protection of T-90A.

Arjun mk1 is like a German turret with British gun .
120 mm rifled gun .
Why can't arjun have a 130 mm smoothbore gun ?

There is no restriction. But Army have to firm-up the requirements and give it to DRDO.

Also increase in caliber from present 120 mm to 130 mm will required a redesigned hull and turret. In addition, the crew will have to be cut down to 3 since the larger 130 mm round will not be able to be handled manually.

DRDO can make happen anything , but does the military want it.
Infact india axed her feet when we went for t 72s in 80s era instead of continuing with british or even amx 40 tank.
