One militant was gunned down by the Army when he was trying to infiltrate in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. "Suspicious movement was noticed by troops near the Poonch district. The intruder was challenged leading to a gunfight," a senior army official said. The alert Army foiled the infiltration bid by killing the ultra. On Saturday night, Army had foiled an infiltration bid in Keran sector. Three infiltration bids were foiled in Tangdhar sector along the LoC in Kupwara district on May 25, May 31 and June 6 this year.

Army has issued a RFI for a silenced pistol, is it just me or anybody else is finding this strange?
i thought silencers can be bought separately. Or is it that we cannot put a silencer on our current service pistol 9mm1A?

Can someone clarify this please.....

My guess is that, this is for SF Glocks....

Skardu fell in 1948 because of Nehru and Abdullah

It deserves to be answered particularly for the children and the grandchildren of all those who perished in Skardu as to why Skardu which held on for over 6 months in the remote high altitude area of Baltistan could not be reinforced when the entire control of J&K Operations was handed over to the Indian Army on 27 Oct 1947 and the Army Operational Command had been functioning in the State for over 9 months from 27 Oct 1947 and had sufficient forces and the means available in the valley.

It is also argued by the experts that if Indian Army could move a Battalion by air to Kashmir at one day’s notice why it could not reinforce Skardu for 8 months............As for Gilgit even one company dropped before 1 Nov 1947, would have definitely saved it and with it whole of Baltistan and Ladakh.

On 27 Oct 1947, Maharaja Hari Singh was the ruler when Indian Army moved in at one day’s notice. In Aug 1948, it was Sheikh Abdullah. Had he insisted that Skardu must be saved and prevailed upon Pandit Nehru, Skardu would have been saved and that is where the rub lies. Since Nehru and Shiekh Abdullah were not interested in saving the State Forces of Maharaja Hari Singh, they did not even care about them.

And this attitude guided the Indian Army and prevailed down the line which the author of this has personally experienced for almost for ten years when the J&K State Forces were ill treated till they decimated one Pakistan Brigade at Hussainiwala in 1956. It was only this operation which turned the fate of the Regiment and got it integrated in the Indian Army without any Screening. Today it is the finest Regiment of the Indian Army having won two out of the four Param Veer Chakras in Kargil alone.

Detailed line items maybe hard to find but as general principal it is 60:40 split between operational expenditure and capital expenditure. Opex is salaries and maintenance and capex is new equipment acquisitions on an annual basis.

Indian Army Revives Light BP Vehicle Need

October 12, 2015: After a series of stops and starts, the Army has got its requirement for light bullet-proof vehicles going again and is hoping it leads to a definite procurement this time. While the Army has never specifically mentioned numbers, it is understood to be around 100-120 vehicles as part of a final order. The vehicle will be used for move of small parties with battle loads in a counter insurgency operational area. The vehicle must offer protection against small arms fire (NIJ protection level III on all sides or better) and enable aforementioned detachment to move and operate effectively and safely allowing effective use of weapons while on the move. The LBPV must be a robust vehicle able to withstand rough usage and be able to operate on un-metalled roads. In the operational scenario in J&K and the North East (especially Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) close to the Myanmar border, the Army is looking to procure these vehicles quickly. The vehicles will principally be for fast pursuit and storming operations, the requirement for which has been highly felt in post-encounter operations especially in near built-up areas. The Army has also stressed on ease of maintenance, as it tries to overhaul its entire after-sale philosophy for high- utility vehicles in operational areas.
