Lets first put adequete Akash and other (Layered) SAM Coverage against the Chinese first. Shooting those Pralay missles would be easy. Dealing with the counter response from the Chinese Rocket Forces would be a whole different ball game.

What's up with the physical fitness standards of the army? Lanky, malnourished kids who can't even stand straight?
Are they fulfilling the below mentioned criteria?
"152cm height, 45kg weight, 5cm chest expansion, 6/6 vision, 14 dental points"

a. If no, then there has been an error in recruitment and they'll be replaced as soon as army gets light of this matter
b. If yes, then despite not being fit according to your standards, they are perfectly fit according to army's and they have no issues with them

See, army needs manpower. Period
Nothing more, nothing less, just men (and women) who are able to use their body parts to full potential. Because at 18 years of age that's what you should expect.

Sure you can have the best soldiers by setting your requirements to minimum 6' of height, 75kg, ripped with atleast 6 packs, prerequisite of Krav Maga, can skydive...but imagine how reduced the intake would be. So military simply takes everyone and from there on the person most fit for the job simply trickles down there with time. You'd never find a skinny machine gunner, you'd never find a malnurished Para SF, you'd never a huge bulked up tank driver...but in the collective "army" you'd find everyone.

Also dont forget that MAJORITY of People who sign up for the Army come from Abject poverty. With Zero Nutritional Value through their formative years. Even things like no access to good potable water, sanitiation good health care fucks your system. And this applies to not just the Jawans but also the Officer Cadre - most come from Tier 3-6 towns.

So if at the age of 18 they meet the minimum standards - it becomes a base to fix their nutrition and strengten them up over time. The minimum intake is what the Army knows it can work with.

Few things to consider

1. Indian body type rarely lends itself to bulk. Alot is DNA structure and alot has to do with Malnutrition in formative years
2. Indian Army being a walking army and not a driving army needs endurance over strenght

HOWEVER as a side point - the Army's intake regime/ medical and nutrition regime is based on WWII standards and has not seen any update with new science or data driven methods.

360 rockets were ordered back in 2005. They might have meant it.
irrespective of how many launchers are in the inventory, Three regiments was the estimate.

Step 1: Watch Republic Day Parade announcement, they announce the regiment name
Step 2 : See the formantion sign on truck

Smerch MBRL

India bought around 42 Smerch launchers from Russia
1 Regiment = 12 Smerch Launchers
So we have 3 Smerch Regiments ( 3 regiments x 12 launchers ) with total 36 launchers and probably 6 Smerch launchers in training/reserve at Deolali Artillery School

551 Rocket Regiment (Smerch) of 40th Artillery Division
(2008 Republic Day, division sign 'Cannon with Missile' zoomed in on truck)

1812 Rocket Regiment (Smerch) of 40th Artillery Division (Division sign visible 'Cannon with Missile')
(Republic Day 2016)

1872 Rocket Regiment (Smerch) of 42nd Artillery Division
(Republic Day 2012, 2014, Division Sign 'Rocket with diagonal flash' visible)

As you can see the 41st 'Agnibaaz' Artillery Division has never been spotted with Smerch at Republic Day Parade.
And 551 Rocket Regiment hasnt been seen for a long time.
Also 40th Artillery Division seems to have 2 Smerch Regiments (551 and 1812 Regiments)..

But Lo and behold !!

Eastern Command started celebrating Republic Day at Kolkata.

551 Rocket Regiment (Smerch) was displayed with Eastern Command Insignia in 2020 Republic Day Parade @ Kolkata

So 43rd Artillery Division has NOT been created yet (as formation sign is of Eastern Command)

So I deduce that

40th Artillery Division = 1812 Rocket Regiment (Smerch)
42nd Artillery Division = 1872 Rocket Regiment (Smerch)
Eastern Command = 551 Rocket Regiment (Smerch)

Or

Soe reorganisation has happened and one regiment no longer has 12 launchers to allow for 4 regiments of Smerch. Or a few batteries have been loaned to Eastern Command

Agree to all but shooting Pralay down wont be easy - It follows a quasi ballistic bath - similar to iskander , DF15.

Think you missed my point. I am sure Pralay is / will be a great weapon system.

BUT

For every one we will launch they will launch 50.

So before let's get our house in order to deal with the blow back alongside deploying Pralay. On its own it means nothing really.
