Army Commander Southern Command Visits Sector Defence Industries and Premier Academia at Bengaluru




Technology has been the prime foundation of military modernization throughout history and it drives changes in warfare more than any other factor. Developments in technologies contribute an ncreasing array of strategic capabilities for our forces. New technologies can provide the much-desired edge to an army over its adversary.


To bolster the absorption of technology in Indian Army, Lt Gen A K Singh, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command visited industries from the Indian Defence Sector and premier Academia in Bengaluru from 26 to 28 June 2023.

The visit was coordinated by the Regional Technology Node Bengaluru (RTN-B) under the aegis of ASC Centre and College, Bengaluru. Inaugurated in November 2022, RTN-B is the regional outreach arm of Army Design Bureau (ADB) of Indian Army for the states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Telangana.


The Army Commander visited SSS Defence, Alpha Design Technologies Pvt Ltd, New Space Research and Technologies Pvt Ltd and Microsoft Technology Centre. He also visited Indian Institute of Science and IISc based AI and Robotics Technology Park (ARTPARK).

Gen A K Singh brought out that “One of the key elements in achieving self sufficiency in defence and achieve defence superiority is technological dominance and R&D plays a major role towards ushering-in innovative technologies. The path towards technological prowess of the country is being paved by the Government’s vision of “Atma Nirbhar Bharat” which is benefitting all sectors. It is need of the hour that the Indian Army looks at the Indian Defence Sector Industry as a stake holder in evolution through innovation and indigenization”.

The Army Commander also visited the Padukone-Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence (CSE) which is India's premier integrated multi-sport complex. Built to encourage athletes in every sport, CSE provides breathtaking array of top-notch facilities for athletes, coaches and sports enthusiasts. Contribution of the Indian Army towards sports has bestowed the nation with some of the most famed sports personalities. Southern Command has always been the torch-bearer for sports excellence in the Indian Army. Army Commander expressed confidence that the alliance of Indian Army and sports will forever continue to bring glory to our country.

Did IA raise the second regiment or ... ? Can't find any news... this would take the total number of Dhanush in service to 36.

The Indian Army has recommenced induction of the Dhanush artillery system and is raising a second regiment of the indigenously upgraded gun. The process of inducting the second Dhanush regiment into the Indian Army is scheduled to be completed in March. A regiment comprises 18 guns.
The Indian Army is scheduled to raise four more regiments of the Dhanush artillery system by 2024.
