Big development. Indeed, #IndianArmy has possibly the best skill in counter terrorism . What we need is adequate equipments. And those do not include just BPJ, optics and firearms but surveillance system, data networking system, secured connection, unmanned platforms etc too.

At a time when Army Chief General Bipin Rawat is in Japan, Indian and Japanese armies are enhancing their cooperation to tackle any possible terrorist attack during the Tokyo Olympics.

If I am not wrong, it seems third image suggests that the K-9 is being used in direct fire role (see the elevation of the barrel). The high explosive shell of 155mm can be used for anti-armour and anti-structure application. It has potential to become our own tank destroyer, even without any dedicated FSASPDS shell.

I designated India Guardian of Dharma on this very forum not too long ago. I was pleasantly surprised to see this exercise named Dharma Guardian. Either someone important reads this forum or it was a pure coincidence :) Either way I 100% approve this name.

Indian Army's military diplomacy to get training push for more foreign cadets from neighbourhood

Training of foreign cadets has become a crucial aspect of having good ties with countries in the neighbourhood.

At OTA Gaya, cadets from Bhutan, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Myanmar get trained along with the Indian cadets.
The Indian Army's military diplomacy took center at the Officer's Training Academy (OTA) Gaya on Saturday with cadets from Bhutan and Vietnam passing out and the event witnessed by Vietnam Army Deputy Chief of Staff.

Training of foreign cadets has become a crucial aspect of having good ties with countries in the neighbourhood.

At OTA Gaya, cadets from Bhutan, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Myanmar get trained along with the Indian cadets.

It's noteworthy that the Buddhist influence in these countries and Gaya is a place of religious importance for Buddhist as Lord Buddha attained enlightenment here.

They spend their first year here and then move on to the engineering colleges like Indians for three years. After the passing out parade, they spend the fifth year in the engineering college specialising in their branch.

Since 2011 when OTA Gaya started, 71 cadets from countries like Vietnam, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Myanmar have been trained in the technical entry scheme to be warriors in their counties.

The bond is such that even the newly commissioned officers of the Bhutan Royal Army sang the Army song and the Indian national anthem with their brethren.

Four cadets got commissioned as officers of the Bhutanese Army on Saturday. While four Vietnamese were also part of the course they will get commissioned when they return to their country after spending five years in India.

"Training cadets from foreign countries gives us the opportunity to have better relations with friendly counties. It is a very important aspect of military diplomacy," Lt Gen Sunil Srivastava, Commandant, OTA Gaya said.

The reviewing officer for the parade this year was Lt Gen Ngo Minh Tien, Deputy Chief General Staff, Vietnamese People's Army.

Mai Phuong Vu, a 23-year-old cadet from Vietnam said it was a great opportunity for him to get technical knowledge and military training at the same time. "The standard of engineering is very high in India. I have spent four years here and we were treated just like any other cadet," he said.

"We are excited to go back to our country and use the knowledge we have got here," said 23-year-old Vietnamese cadet Pham Vietn An.

However, the military diplomacy in OTA Gaya that has the potential to be turned into a big center for military diplomacy with more counties in India's neighbourhood because of the city's religious significance to Buddhism might be short lived. There is a proposal to shut the academy and shift the technical entry scheme to Indian Military Academy, Dehradun

The Indian Military Academy (IMA) held the passing out parade for the newly-commissioned officers of the Indian Army. Among them was a 24-year-old officer from Kashmir who stood out calm and composed brimming with a passion to serve the country.

Shahid Shah was accompanied by his parents and younger sister, just like other important days of his life. Shah, who joined the Army at the age of 17 years and six months as a Sepoy, was just quietly smiling while being showered with blessings by his parents unlike other officers who were elated on being commissioned.

“It was my dream from childhood to join the armed forces as my father was also in one of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF). Pursuing my dream, I joined the Army as Sepoy soon after completing my school education,” said Shah while speaking about his journey.

He served as Sepoy for two years before joining the Army Cadet College (ACC) in IMA, Dehradun, followed by one year course in the IMA before being commissioned as officer in the Indian Army.

Terming it as a day of immense pride, Shah, who claimed to be the first officer in Indian Army from is town in Kashmir, said nothing can be greater than getting a chance to serve the country as an Army officer.

“I just can’t describe the feeling but would want the youths in my town to have the same feeling by joining the Army to serve the nation. I would be more than happy if they draw inspiration from me and join the Army,” he said.

His father, Mohammed Shah, who served in different places of the country while being with the CAPF got emotional while describing the feeling on his son’s achievement.

“I am immensely happy and proud of my son. He always wanted to become an officer in the Army in which I always motivated him. I know the feeling in serving the nation while serving in the forces and am happy that he would get the same,” he said.

Indian Army issues guidelines for Sikh personnel planning to visit Kartarpur, tells them to remain cautious

The Indian Army has issued guidelines to Sikh personnel who are planning to visit Kartarpur in Pakistan telling them to be extra vigilant.

  • He further asserted that it will hurt India forever
  • The Indian Army has instructed its personnel to be careful while visiting Kartarpur
New Delhi: The Indian Army has issued procedures and guidelines for its personnel who wish to visit the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur in Pakistan. As per the Army sources, guidelines have been issued twice in November for the personnel who plan to visit the recently-opened Kartarpur corridor.

In the guidelines, the Army has also instructed its personnel to be careful while visiting there as they are bound to come in contact with foreign nationals.

Army sources said since the personnel of the force are expected to visit Pakistan it is imperative that they remain extra cautious during the pilgrimage.

The Indian Army has a presence of a large number of Sikh officers and troops in its ranks with its three regiments including the Sikh Regiment, Sikh Light Infantry Regiment and the Punjab Regiment mainly comprising Sikh troops from Punjab and neighbouring states of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.

On November 9, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan had inaugurated the Kartarpur corridor to facilitate the visa-free entry of Indian Sikh pilgrims to celebrate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev – the founder of Sikhism.

Pakistan has been promoting the opening of Kartarpur corridor as a message of peace and has been calling it the brainchild of Imran Khan. However, Pakistan’s Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid recently spilt the beans by contradicting his own government saying that it was Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s idea to open the corridor. He further asserted that it will hurt India forever.

Meanwhile, the presence of Khalistan supporters in Pakistan, including separatists arriving from countries like the US, UK and Canada is a big cause of concern for India.

Indian intelligence agencies have also warned that Sikh fundamentalist organisations like Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) might use the opening of Kartarpur corridor to fuel their secessionist agenda.

Supported by Pakistan-based handlers and the ISI, the SFJ receives money and logistical support to local terrorists in Punjab to carry out anti-India activities.

In the past, India has expressed concern over gurdwaras in Pakistan being used to promote pro-Khalistan messages.

Indian Army gets new American assault rifles in Kashmir Valley against terrorists, Pak Army on LoC

ANI | Updated: Dec 11, 2019 03:19 AM IST

New Delhi [India], Dec 11 (ANI): In a major boost in fight against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan Army on the Line of Control (LoC), the Indian Army has started inducting its newly acquired American SiG Sauer assault rifles in operations.
In addition, the Indian Army has also started getting supplies of ammunition for its sniper rifles as more than 21 lakh rounds have been ordered from vendors.
"The first lot of 10,000 SiG 716 assault rifles has arrived in India and has been sent to the Northern Command," top Indian Army sources told ANI.

The Northern Command looks after the counter-terrorist operations in Jammu and Kashmir including the stopping the influx of terrorists from Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) who are trained there.
The induction of these new assault rifles with the troops in operation will help them to operate more effectively in engagements with the terrorists in Pakistan and PoK.
India had signed an over Rs 700 crore contract to equip the Indian Army with 72,400 new assault rifles.
The rifles are being supplied by US arms maker Sig Sauer. They will be manufactured in the US and will be supplied within a year since the contract for the new guns is being made under fast-track procurement (FTP).
A majority of these rifles -- 66,000 -- are for the Indian Army. The remaining will be divided between the Indian Navy (2,000) and the Indian Air Force (4,000).
The Sig Sauer SIG716 7.62x51 mm assault rifles will replace the Indian-made 5.56x45mm Insas rifles.
The Indian Army will also receive a major boost with the induction of more than 7 lakh AK-203 assault rifles which are going to be produced in the joint venture between India and Russia. (ANI)
