Actually no one is holding this up. SoKo and US are trying to build up pressure in their own sweet way. Russia on other hand is objecting to some of the tests which they didn't qualify. They have the very right to do that. Remember that SoKo too complained when they were disqualified in the Carbine deal.

But Russia would hold edge anyway as IA is well versed with Pantsir system. Being a user, first preference would be given to the well known and used system rather then a complete new one. E.g VSHORAD. But as of now IA has not shown any such tendency.
Seriously igls-s ??...... Don't you think verba should come instead of it

I do, but as I said earlier, IA would give first preference to a system which they are used to. They would not jump the fence and adopt an untested design. Verba being a potent system is still in infancy when it comes to usage. Igla on other hand is a matured system. Even Russians are in process of induction and not yet replaced its own Igla. Moreover, whenever Russia is concerned, India always opts for system which could be managed inhouse.

Moreoevr Verba doesn't give a exponential upgrade in respect to Igla-S in capability. Although it gives a longer range and altitude, but if Igla is capable of fulfilling IA needs, they would not go for Verba.

I don't think it was even out for compitition

No it was not. The Russians did wanted to offer it in between the tender when they realised that other systems were outperforming igla-s. But due to the opposition from other contenders verba was not included

It's not ATGM so required to perform superiorly in Thar desert. It will be operational on every altitude in each environmental condition. It's reliability, performance, serviceability, price everything matters here

But you simply can't Compromise with the most important aspect of a missile which is its seeker. You need to achieve a lockon first before doing anything

Yeah it did........... But interestingly it performed exceptionally well then its competitors in high altitude. Even the other system were not satisfactory enough in hot weather trial. But Igla performed exceptional in high altitude cold tests.

Now going into the western front, we could deploy system like Pantsir and QRSAM which are much more effective then a MANPAD against any sort of target. But the same can't be deployed in the mountainous terrain of North. We could have area defence system at those place, but a marching column would be without a quick reacting point defence system unlike Thar.

So a system which works fine in high altitude cold weather would be better suited into doctrine.

Indian Army troops will get advanced Sniper Rifles on 20th Jan

After the attacks from sniper rifles on Indian troops from across the border, the Indian Army is now going to equip its soldiers with sniper rifles. Army Chief General Bipin Rawat said on Thursday that on January 20, the Northern Command of the Indian Army will be given new sniper rifles. General Rawat has given this information while addressing the annual press conference in Delhi on Thursday.

Indian Army will induct as many as 7,219 ‘Sniper Rifles’ in Janauary. Army goes for emergency purchase of some very advanced Sniper Rifles for troops deployed at LoC. Here is the two sniper Rifles which will be inducted in Army:

1. M95 MS Barrett .50 BMG
  • Type : Anti Material Sniper Rifle
  • Country : USA
  • Count : 1,500 rifles
  • Cartridge : 12.7 mm
  • Range : 1.8 Km

M95 MS Barrett .50 BMG
2. Beretta Scorpio TGT ‘Vitrix’ .338 Lapua Magmum
  • Type : Sniper Rifles
  • Country : Italy
  • Count : 5,719 rifles
  • Cartridge : 8.36 mm
  • Range : 1.5 Km – 1.8 Km

Beretta Scorpio TGT ‘Vitrix’ .338 Lapua Magmum
These ‘Sniper Rifles’ will replace Russian-origin 7.62mm Dragunov semi-automatic sniper rifles, which have a “limited” kill range of 800-metre and a design vintage of the 1960s.

There were some such reports in October that Indian soldiers were being attacked with Sniper Rifles from cross-border. There were reports that terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir are also using sniper rifles to attack the army. . Now the army is equipping its soldiers with sniper rifles to respond the similar attacks.

Thought these were supposed to be an emergency purchase (pending the actual RFP for 5000+ rifles).
How come the emergency order itself numbers 7000+?
Something wrong with the reporting, eh??

“Won’t allow Gay-sex and Adultery in the army”- Army Chief Bipin Rawat

Army Chief General Bipin Rawat has said that he will not allow gay sex in the army because the army accepts conservative thinking. He said that the army has its own laws on gay relations. Let the Supreme Court give legal recognition to homosexuality and have made it out of the category of crime. There can be a controversy after this statement of Army Chief.

The Supreme Court partially canceled Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, which in its historical verdict of September 6, denounced homosexuality as a crime. The Constitutional Bench said in its judgment that like other people, the LGBT community is also a part of the society and it also has rights like others.

Despite this decision of the apex court, the Army Chief has said that the Adultery is a crime in the Indian Army. He said, ‘Indian Army is very conservative’ and ‘the soldiers stationed on the border can not worry about the family present at home.’ He said that ‘similar thinking is on lesbian, gay, bureaucratic and transgender issues. In the army, we can not accept it. ‘

The General said, ‘the army will not allow LGBT activities here. There are provisions in the army to deal with such activities. ‘ Rawat further said that ‘आप लोगों में यह चलता होगा…हमारे यहाँ नहीं ! ‘(Aaplogo me yeah chalta hoga..hmare yaha nahi). We are still conservative and yet to be westernised. We can’t decriminalise adultery and homosexuality in the Army. The Army Chief said during this year’s annual press conference. He was asked about the position of the army on Gay Sex and the Adultery.

People go to war to kill or be killed. If order and discipline are not maintained, morale and esprit de corps will break down. Also under Article 33 of Constitution only Parliament decides degree of freedom in forces. Unless Constitutional Amendment is passed, SC can do shit. Army Act, Navy Act, Air Force Act is under Article 33. Hats off to our founders for being far sighted!

Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat's Full Annual Press Conference 2019

Helina missile still not good enough for IA (even though the last set of trails seemed to be have impressed them).
DRDO will come back to IA by March this year to let them know how much more time DRDO needs to fix the issues! So, Helina ATGM at this has not definite timeline - need to wait till March to find out.... (may take another 12-18 months IMHO)
