well you will engage 10 and fire your own 11 missiles on enemy...........:thumb:
Yes it seems, offensive is the best defensive tactics, one fine decision of Indian policy makers (NOTE: no Congress/BJP) to have nuclear weapon

Pay what we have done is practically made Pakistan bankrupt, if you have been seeing in last 5 years they have increased their nukes and missile at alarming rate, this is due to our BMD, what will result of this, PA will be forced to make more nukes and nuke unlike other things are very expensive to maintain and they dont give you anything except sense of security. Pakistani Janta who has lived eating grass, will suffer, you must have seen their train system is in mess they dont have engines or funds, same is true about their electricity. Only military is prospering but army per say does not contribute any economic activity. So they are in vicious circle of having spend spend and spend on nukes with no end in sight and our BMD is telling them look we are going to intercept all you can throw, so they will be forced to make more nukes and missile.

yes Saya, another advantage of BMD is if by accident any rouge element (like the Jihadi) get a hand of a missile or two it can be successful repelled, maybe even preventing a war !!! :noidea:

why can't we modify this as long range SAM since PAD On March 6, 2009 DRDO carried out a second successful test of the PAD interceptor missile. The target used was ship launched Dhanush missile which followed the trajectory of a missile with range of a 1,500 km (930 mi). The target was tracked by Swordfish (LRTR) radar and destroyed by the PAD at 75 km (47 mi) altitude

In another report the scientists have said that the AAD missile could be modified into a new extended range (up to 150 km (93 mi)) surface-to-air missile that could be possibly named as 'Ashvin' any news on this

India's interceptor missile test yields new surface-to-surface missile as a spin off - Thaindian News
i agree but with modification are there any chances
The core difference lies in the air-frame design. This difference is because of their different flight path.
ABM are designed for max speed, max pressure on impact and less maneuverability. If you see ABM is always launched in intercept phase. Change in their flight path dramatically reduces their range and speed. TVC is something very new to ABM. This is epically true in upper atmosphere where the missile is not to maneuver but just stay on intercept course. Incoming ballistic can't just change its course and have a predetermined course.
On the contrary air crafts are highly maneuverable and can change their course at any point of time. Hence SAM need to be highly maneuverable and their airframe is built for that.
Hence same missile can't effectively perform both roles.

How you get on such conclusion that Indian BMD system is not prepared for such case ?

If China gets this technology from Russia in secret (or China's friend Pakistan) then India's BMD system is of no use.

Can we convert Barak 1 and 2 both to land based systems...
would be cost productive and can be used Navy airforce and army too.

I think the Army is considering a land based Air defense system of the Barak-8.

we would require all SAM's short, medium long range etc around all major cities and Defense sites if we need to counter any foolish attacks

This is what I have collected from the internet and I might have missed a few. Please feel free to add.

Alarming observation is that we do not currently have any SAM capability beyond 35Km range. Is this correct?

Considering the Astra spin-off becomes a reality, this would be extended to 100Km probably.

I read in some threads that India is developing SAM systems comparable or better than S-300. What are those?

Why are we not acquiring S-400/S-500 systems with 400Km+ range?

We have a requirement. The AAD will be modified into a SAM called Ashvin with a range of 150 Km.

The range of IAF version of Barak-8 would be 70Km. It is classified as MRSAM.

The Navy will also induct the extended range version of Barak-8 (120Km) on future ships.

An Astra spinoff will be a MRSAM, like Akash. Check specs for Derby/SPYDER SAM and you will have an idea.

I thought you didn't want to discuss these. AAD/PAD/PDV followed by AD-1/AD-2 will be part of our BMD system. We don't want the S-300 because we are already deploying a S-300 equivalent system. S-400, I don't know if we want it or not. It is a smaller upgrade on our own BMD, no point when we can upgrade our BMD with better missiles like the PDV. S-500 is still under development and the Russians armed forces will be inducting first.

So we have a tender out for MANPADS at the lowest level.

LLQRM/SRSAM - We have deals out for SPYDER (15 Km range, 9 Km altitude and 35 Km range, 16 Km altitude) and a development project with the French for Maitri (maybe 15 Km range and 9 Km altitude). Depending on configuration SPYDER can also handle MRSAM duties. Maitri will be a LLQRM, meaning a SPYDER SAM with only the Python missile.

MRSAM - We have a successful Akash (30 Km range, 18 Km altitude) system and a Akash MK2 (35 Km range) in development. Barak - 8 (IAF)

LRSAM - Ashvin (150 Km range, possibly 25 Km altitude), Barak-8 (IN 70-120 Km range)

So the longest range in the pipeline is of Ashwin - 150km. Still nowhere near the 400Km range of S-400. Equivalent maybe in intercept capability or seeker technology, but not in terms of range.

Do we not need 400Km SAM capability? 400km is like the distance between Chandigarh & Islamabad. Fighter taking off from Islamabad can be taken out with a SAM launch from Chandigarh.
