Indian Army Aviation Corps

The army aviation pilots are drawn from other combat arms, including artillery officers, to form a composite third dimensional force for an integrated battle. Army Aviation pilots also fly attack Helicopters like the Mil Mi-25/Mi-35 which are owned and administered by the Indian Air Force play a major role to support the armoured columns and infantry in the Thar desert and

in the plains of Punjab. Apart from the attack role, helicopters like the HAL Chetak , HAL Cheetah and HAL Dhruv provide logistical support for the Indian Army in remote and inaccessible areas, specially the Siachen Glacier. Army Aviation Corps(AAC) also perform tasks like search and rescue (CSAR) and medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) during war and also in the case of natural calamities.

The Army Aviation Corps currently has the strength of 460+ pilot officers with an annual intake of 40-45 pilots.

Role

Tactical Air Transport, Assault duties and anti-tank warfare, Reconnaissance, Liaison, Disaster Relief, MEDEVAC, CSAR.

Did army had its own pilots? I never heard of them? If there is no one is there any recruitment Drive gonna happen?
They have one of the most professional pilots who fly to one of the most inaccessible areas on the borders and they have been doing it since ages.

Army Aviation needs to expand in a big way to at laest:

One aviation brigade per strike corps (Five aviation Brigades) with squadron each of attack heliocentric, heavy lift Helicopters and utility hepters.
One two aviation squadron per Defensive Corps ( One attack and one utility)
One squadron of SU-25 Type ground attack aircraft per Corps.
12 Medium Transport aircraft per Command.
ALL transport aircraft placed with Aviation Corps of the Army,

Only then would be a good Aviation Corps.

You may disagree with me, But MOD would never allow JET in IA..

But there is always a way for Attack Turboprops, If IA is forceful & Understand the concept..

If there is a requirement there is allowing..
Why should Navy hold fighters then?

Holding jets means creating new air strips which needs new lands to be acquired plus IAF won't allow any such move to acquire jets by army coz that will diminish their roles and power.
Navy is holding jets in their carriers coz its not practical for airforce to make airbases in the middle of sea .:p. Any way I don't think buying Su25 type aircraft will bringh any good coz they are not good against a conventional armies which will have portable missile launchers .And coming to tackling illequipped enemies like naxals and terrorists of NE and J&K govt won't sanction such raids worring public outburst.

SU-25 took MANPADs and made back to bases many times, there are less chances from hitting with MANPADs if one have sufficient flairs..

Though it true it need a Airstrip and its operational cost are very high..

HAL should offer LCA to IA also.

IAF creates too many problems with LCA, so bring IA in.

IAF will will sure accept LCA soon (with passed certificate for all the clearances).

If not then let IA get LCA.

So what's happening then?

Apache Block III Remain Final Choice for Indian Army | Defense Update
Russian news agency Novosti reported today the Russian candidate for the Indian Army procurement of 22 attack helicopter, has not met Indian requirements and has dropped from the competition, leaving the Boeing AH-64D Apache Block III the only competitor. According to the agency's Russian sources the Russian Mi-28N 'Night Hunter' failed in meeting 20 criteria, mostly on technical ground and maturity issues involving its sensors and combat systems integration. Russia was ready to offer the 22 helicopters at a flyaway cost of $600 million, less than half the value the Pentagon mentioned in the notification to Congress in 2010.
