One question that comes before everything is how IAF will react to any such plan? We all know how reluctantly IAF let Army have helicopters, then Army aviation corps, then attack helicopters (LCH). If i could recall right, in late 90s and early 20s IAF had made (failed) pitch to get control over all air assets of Army and even navy. I don't think IAF will swallow any such plans easily and even if they again allow this then a question will still linger, Who will provide air escort to this CAS aircraft?
Their are only few who denied or looking for attention..
I have mention somewhere here in forum before that in J&K IAF is very stretched, Their are little amount of IAF helos are for Casualty evacuation, All major work load is taken by Army Aviation cheetahs, I have posted some pics took by me..
This effort helps IAF to concentrate on other Issues like diverting the pilots for heavy logistical support of MI-17s, In Kargil situation was messy coz IAF was operating many types of Mission with many types of Aircraft with huge logistical support from a single airbase mainly, CAS call take 24-48 hours or never, Arty and mortar were used intensively in entire campaign..
The only change will be a article which says all major strike aircraft including gunships in IAF control, And it will change in time..
Regarding MI-25/35, IAF proposed it to IA back in 90s may be, But IA rejected as IA have no maintenance or logistical support for few MI gunships, The maintenance and flying cost were too high coz they were too few, LCH share common parts with Dhruv, So Its easy to have such gunship..
