m-777 is a piece of junk.i don't know why some people in the army and congress are so interested in that.the m-777 has failed in all the parameters set by the army in testing.what we need is fh-77 bofors canons which have excelled in all trials for the towed category and g-6 howitzers in the self-propeled category till drdo comes up with an indegeneous solution.

shukov, fh77 is an excellent weapon but bofors had ended the production of that model in 2006..plus nowdays due to gunlocating radars towed artillery is vulnureble to counter attack where as if we deploy a howister mounted on truck we could sortout that problem without compromising on lethality...

Cough cough !

M777 is good gun, You cannot transport a FH-77 at top of the mountain by helo, But M777 does, also Adversary are using guns of 20km range, M777 gives you same as FH-77 that is 30km..

which is this howister?it seems fit for our requirements coz it has large caliber and is mobile
Probably ceaser..

The thread is not that greater than whats suggest by Media..

In Kargil we worked in that inviorment, how many gun we lost ?, Truck mounted is good but we need bigger gun on trucks..

recently in the media there were some reports that m-777 has failed in many of the vital parameters in army's trail like air-mobility.i don't know how much is true.but it was also said that the according to some officers we do not need light weight artillery in the mountains.also if i remember correctly the fh-77 bofors was the winning factor in kargil.now it's 52 caliber variant fh-77 b05 model was competing in the last trials as well.

False media reports, MI-17 under-slung carry 105mm, It certainly carry M777 both are around 3000kgs..

Some officers also think they can bring T-72 over mountains in CT operations.. 0_o

Compare FH-77 weight to M777, FH-77 is good but now its almost obsolete compare to newer 52cal guns which are available everywhere..

Btw, Israeli should make a Indigenous SPG on Merkava chassis, you have 52cal gun all u need FCS and Autoloder which we have to offer..

a merkava based spg prototype existed it was called "sholef" (grabber )
it was very good but too expensive to field in the numbers needed
agm coast 50% (2.5mil$) of the coast of a new sholef
we need a 1000 units to be relapsed in the next 10 years so price is an issue

I had mentioned the sholef earlier in this thread when i said it would be one of the best options for Israel and India to work together in further modifying the basic Sholef platform into a modern and viable artillery system that could be utlilized by both nations. Good to see the slammer making a comeback on the thread.
My earlier comments on the Sholef can be found here http://defenceforumindia.com/indian...xecute-4-billion-$-artillery-5.html#post97492

Instead of blacklisting firms ( self defeating , since we can't get the arms), punish the individuals responsible for scam.
