Both the Vajra K-9 SPH and M-777 deals, besides many others, have not been signed. Is Parrikar there for cutting ribbons only ?

Very many thanks to Indian army to saving our life from terrorist attack and other life threatening situation all the time. We really need to know super hero of our Indian Army. Though we do not get several chances for that. We can get some real time thoughts over it via The Better India platform.

MoD procurements are a minefield.

Modi and Parrikar are systematically working thru the mess. Raksha Mantri is acting like a clearing house for defence deals, one by one getting deals signed and executed.

105mm at eastern sector, The place where only small vehicle and compact guns can go ..
Was Privileged enough to vsist the 283 Field "Top Gun" unit a few months ago, for the uninitiated this unit has the distinction of creating the highest artillery position on earth by installing 105mm guns at 6300mt in Sikkim.

Interesting info.

105mm LFG costs only Rs. 2.5 crore each. So for the cost of 145 M777, we can purchase 2500 LFGs and pre position them in forward areas.
M777 is 155mm large caliber means more destruction and more range and less weight..
105mm LFG weighs more, fires less powerful rounds and less distance...

Army has reserve 105mm in more than sufficient numbers, These are kept in reserve where active once are at front, 105mm makes the back bone of Indian light artillery..

Indian field gun 105mm is 2380 kgs compare to M777`s 4,200 kg, The difference is by staggering 1820kgs.

DRDO, Assocham sign MoU for transfer of defence technology
Assocham in turn will facilitate in assessing the commercial value of identified defence technology for civilian application through market research and will also evaluate the volume of potential market for the technology.
PANAJI: DRDO and Associated Chambers of Commerce of India have inked a memorandum of understanding to facilitate the transfer of defence technology to Indian industry, an Assocham spokesperson said on Tuesday.
According to Manguirish Pai Raikar, Assocham's Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Council Chairman, the MoU will allow it to leverage defence technologies with commercial potential for civilian use.
"DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) will from time-to-time give Assocham list of defence technologies that may have commercial potential for civilian use.
"Assocham, will identify opportunities for introduction of technologies developed by DRDO for civilian applications and industries that can benefit from the technologies," the Goa-based Raikar said in a statement issued here.
"Assocham in turn will facilitate in assessing the commercial value of identified defence technology for civilian application through market research and will also evaluate the volume of potential market for the technology," the statement added.
The MoU, which was signed on October 27 at the DRDO Bhavan in New Delhi, is valid for two years and can be extended on DRDO's discretion, for a maximum period of another 24 months.

Now that is what I call a true win-win:-
  • Indian private enterprise gets new tech to make world-class products and take a lead role in the global market.
  • Indian defense sector gets to utilise lower product costs arising out of economies of scale.
  • Would be great if we could get another MoU to ensure private R&D falls in step with government R&D and we cover each others weaknesses.
  • Would also be great if we could have a private firm advertising Indian Armed Forces and their equipment.

it says tech will only be shared for products that have civilian use.

OFB 105mm can be dismantled and easily lifted by ALH or Mi-17 is 600-800 Helos by M777 is only suitable for airlift by Chinooks ie only 15 helos.
