Battle Field Surveillance Radar- Medium Range mounted on extendable mast , in the picture , the system is in stowed configuration.

the mast can be raised almost 3-4 times its stowed configuration height .
the system comes fitted with 4 mechanical arms/outriggers (u can see one between the 2 red flags) which extend outwards when the mast is in deployed configuration. it keeps the mast (and the radar installed on top) static inspite of the air turbulence encountered at such heights.

the 4 arms/outriggers r not to be confused with the 4 hydraulic outriggers which r a part of the truck itself and serve to help in leveling the truck (and the entire system).

Battle Field Surveillance Radar- Medium Range is different from the Battle Field Surveillance Radar- Short Range.

This is Battle Field Surveillance Radar- Short Range.

This is Battle Field Surveillance Radar- Medium Range.

Advantages of mast mounted mobile radar system.

1.increase in radar horizon which allows full exploitation of the BFSR-MR ranging capability.
2.increase in survivability via exploitation of high rise terrain . eg the system can be deployed behind small hills etc with the small radar plus a small portion of the mast is only visible , this will deter visual detection of the system by a good margin.
3.affordability and simplicity of operation of both the BFSR-MR radar( rugged and very simple to operate) and the complete system in comparison to other radar systems.
etc

@Kunal Biswas plz move it to relevant thread, thank u

T 72 and T 90 share commonality of 65 % Parts so the ideal replacement for T 72 is T 90M/ MS not Arjun.

Arjun should be the front line Tank with its Mk 2 variant. Limited in numbers but as a formidable opponent.

In reality the major problem with respect to lesser Indian Arjun`s is the Overhaul facilities at field areas are not design for Arjun on first place, The upgrading of overhaul system alone will cost double of Arjun program itself according to some people i talked with, This prime issue is little known in public and a hidden one, The 43rd and 75th regiments have their own overhaul system for Arjun which were in place since 2008 when they used to operate T-55 ..

In theory they have, Their are instances when one T-90 breakdown other is canabalised for spares ..

Upgrading BMP-2 have nothing related to FICV tender under Private CO ..

Its not 5,000 crore deal but 8,000, When this deal was done their were lot of opposition which was quite justified ..

===========

I am talking in Indian Army Armored vehicle thread, Anything else should be an off-topic ..
I think to kill the OFB the government should do the same what they are doing with other sick PSU's don't hire new people and slowly bring them towards it's end.

It's really not fair that private industry is asked to participate in defence manufacturing and when they invest in it they government gives the pie to OFB without competition

By the way one more Arjun with different IR jammer setup, I don't know if this photo was posted before.

Don't underestimate the value of OFB yet. Pvt companies haven't gone thru stress tests yet, OFBs have. OFBs did supply whatever they can during multiple wars, Pvt companies are yet to get to that stage.

Case in point- demonetisation. It's the PSU banks that saved the day, Pvt banks screwed everybody. Other example is EESL, the govt company that supplies LED Bulbs, Noway a Pvt company can supply at those prices.

PSUs have their uses, however inefficient they may be.

well let's take market oriented model route and not the same old model that didn't work in other sectors, EESL is subsidize by the government with a promise of certain number of purchases. the private industry can do the same with better management if the same promise of purchase was done with them.

OFB is a dinosaur and for little benefit you can't leave the greater good that would happen. In today's world they are just not competitive they do surprise sometimes by winning for e.g. MARP contract.

Specially IOF should be brought towards it's natural death, if BJP was in power then this facility would have never got clearance from the government (Nalanda in Bihar and Korwa in UP).

Normally in Gujarat during Modi rule all the sick PSU's started functioning properly and became competitive with a good growth normally he is against selling PSU's or closing down but OFB and HSL are beyond repair I feel unless you invest heavily and revamp the whole management there is no hope and then you have to take in account if the effort of doing is worth it !!!

FICV is at-least 10-15 years away from getting inducted in numbers, Till then the present system has to be upgraded to meet present and near future challenges ..

Concord C8 - based on Ford Endeavour

India now has the full ecosystem to produce both the automotive component as well as the armour part to make such vehicles. I don't understand why we are not ordering such vehicles by default for CRPF, BSF and JKP.

Army could also order these at least for RR.
