Their can be no imported tank that could replace 2000 MBTs in quick succession, Upgraded T-72M1 are meant to stay operational for another 15 years or more ..
FMBT is an project in which we might see Made in India initiative ..
AFAIK FMBT will be PPP project, there are already some key players involved with DRDO for the same.
1) BharatForge- Main gun & forgings.
2) Tata- electronics & drivetrains.
3) L&T- Electronics & RCWS
4) SAIL & MDNL - Armored steel platings

Tarmour was a part of concept involving T-55 chassis based MBT, engineering vehicle etc, It was a technological demonstration ..

Yes, Make in India stuff, Much like TATA DRDO collaboration ..

Wasn't the T-55 being converted into a Heavy APC called the Tarmour?

Also while we're on the T-55, below you see the Romaninan TR-85M1 currently the most modern T-55 derivative in service . It's a heavily modified T-55 based tank with Applique & ERA, a modern gun with a computerised FCS, a more powerful 850bhp engine.

Arjun MK2 turret is larger than Arjun MK1`s, Tank EX`s turret was of Arjun MK1 but with modification much like a cut down re-designed one ..

Its highly unlikely Army would go for Tank EX new when already spending rectifying T-90 bhishma with Arjun MK1/2 components ..

can't they simply remove those optics move it top of turret while hide the front with ERA.Damn this shitty DRDO wala ,either they r not aware of other tanks design or they just want to come up something which is just a mediocre job.

DRDO is R&D design organization and works as per Army requirement and under its supervision ..

You cannot use those optics if placed at top, when engaging target at extreme gun depressions..

Could`nt find a better pic ..
Don`t go insulting your own kind, Specially if its you who don`t have 'know how knowledge' abt it on first place..

Its utter distasteful ..

Optics above turret is much more secure .
If required , we can lift that optics to 1 or 2 feets (like periscope) , for some special cases and can look at different angles .
Yes , Turret of Arjun looks a bit venerable .

I was watching the SF series on Discovery Science in which a former CIA operative mentioned that he was sent to India in the 80s to gather info about T 72. It was his Carrier's first assignment.

Back than T 72 was among the "Big 7" of Soviet Army.

small doubt,
How could this be based T-55?
T-55 series have 5 ground wheels, but this has 6 ground wheels!
