Really? Pre-owned aircrafts for IAF? View attachment 258984
Why is that so surprising?

These 12 Qatari Mirage-2000-5 EDA/DDAs were first offered to India in 2003, evaluated and found them "as good as brand new" back then!

Back then it was thought that even Pakistan was interested in them since they were negotiating with France for 40 odd Mirage-2000-5s. India then made an offer, but it was considered to be too low for Qatar.

Even Dassault got involved and offered to buy these 12 Mirage-2000-5 EDA/DDAs from Qatar and then re-sell it back to India to act as the first 12 Mirage-2000-5s while it setup the assembly line for 126 Mirage-2000-5s in India.

None of that happened thanks to the bloody Tehelka "scam" and politicians got too scared to sign off on big ticket deals. Then this requirement led to MRCA and then it's history is well known.

This price is inflated and the IAF will not be able to convince the MoD to go for them at such a high price. Even in 2003/2004 when the original offer to sell the Qatari Mirage-2000s was made, India only was willing to pay around $350 million or so. That too when the Mirages had nearly 90% of their service life intact!

Russia is struggling to make Su-57 in any numbers, isn't it? If India cannot find out why and see a way to fix the problems, it is not a good idea to go for it as a bridge to AMCA deliveries, is it? Su-75 seems not to be progressing either. Rafale is sold out for years. What would actually bridge the gap? F-15? Eurofighter?

Mirage 2000 , Mig29 and Su-30 mki getting Indian GaN AESA radar and EW suite- superSukhoi upgrade. M2K and Mig29 for western front, superSukhoi on eastern front.
Tejas mk1A delivery should've been started , but alas! . None the less order of 36 Rafales from new proposed 12 increased capacity from Dassault.
