Can a tank operator talk with attack helicopter flying above on a secure network? No.
Can the fighter jet flying talk with the friendly ships on a secure network? Yes.

Military communication is not straightforward like picking up a call. If you get a chance, have a look at the cockpit of a jet, more than half of the buttons and knobs are for radio communication.

Now, for Balakot, ofc army personnel were not informed, no one was informed except the attacking group. Command for all northern airbases & army units was to raise alertness level to war-time (highest). Everybody speculated something was on but got to know by morning through
media.

If you think ops work like, “Hey we are gonna drop some bombs on Pakistan, sit tight you may expect some retaliation”, that’s not how it works.

This is correct. For CAS ops the aircrew are vectored by forward air controllers. A tank in theory can do that job if its a CAS command post, but that defeats the purpose of the tank in the first place. A tank should ideally be able to designate a target and pass the details to the FAC team to call in a jet on top of it.

How much of this can be made in India anyways? Will take time, ISTAR will be desi, aircraft platform will be videshi. And rest you can’t have a Military Industrial Complex overnight.

I am really happy about the ISTAR & C130J. We are still flying a single vintage Boeing 707-based ISR aircraft which we are overworking like crazy.

C130J (Would have liked another squadron more) as it will be backbone our transport facility to rugged terrain like Ladakh & Arunachal.

I, fully support acquiring istar aircraft, upto 4 of them. In case of c130j. it is very expensive buy for india[goi/mod], thats why mta jv, now cancelled. IAF need 80 more mta. India spend huge money to buy transport fleet and neglect fighting capability. In other word, IAF need new fighter jet more than transport fleet, or iaf become icf[indian cargo force] lifting cargo and humans during emergency once done by ia/ai.

in iaf/ia case yes, but in ia/ia case a tank commander can request near artillery command unit or cas aircraft [ia ah64] also foot troops, etc can do same. also artillery units differ, that why ia and iaf fighting with ah64[us with a10]. cds can do better by developing common links for future. cas is a time depend operation and same goes to mobile artillery. Dont forget paf jammed iaf com.
