Does anyone know whether there are new generation hardened aircraft shelters that can accommodate Su-30MKI in those Northern and Western airbases which have Sukhoi Su-30 squadrons?

Caution : People are speaking things that may or may not be true.

On F16

  • india wants F 16 and Gripen is only there to make it look like a competition.
  • F 16 is india's ticket to F 35 so F 16 deal is tied with future F 35 deal
  • USA wants India to speed up procurement but India wants to take time.
  • This was major issue with Matis visit.
  • Matis was here to fast track sales.
  • There is issue of foundational agreements with US for many deals.
  • Trump is growing impatient with sales. He wants to see fast deals like he did in SA.

On FGFA

  • Very unlikely because project is stuck in files.
  • Our relation with Russia is currently at its LOWEST point.
  • Russians are not cooperating like they were before.
  • USA angle is hurting our image in Moscow.
  • Massive mistrust on both sides.
  • At this point any future mega deal with Russia apart from certain deals are dead.
  • Even Russians knows this.
  • In last meeting Russians clearly said about PAKFA deal to take it as it is. No special treatment.

On Rafale

  • Government is not happy with this option.
  • Follow on order as reported by many may not happen.
  • Dassault's behavior is also a big factor.
  • New DM doesn't want anything to do with more Rafale but her mind may change in future.

Most important issue is speed. Many vendors are now calling MoD because new DM. They all want a decision ASAP but current DM has still not studied all material so process will take much longer time. In short everything is moving at slow speed and vendors and foreign countries aren't happy. Most unhappy is USA because they are not used to work with buyer like this.

BigUpdates On Indian Air Force Future Procurement and Plans.

In Recent Indian Air Force’s annual press conference ongoing with IAF chief Dhanoa some big updates were made as follows -
Chief Dhanoa's Statements explained as :-

* In Context of Avenger Drone procurement Dhanoa said that Predator UCAV is considered while Indigenous Ghatak HALE Class Stealth UCAV is underdevelopment.

(Chief Dhanoa described about Predator , the thing here to note down is Avenger is also called Predator C)

*Single engine fighter a procurement priority, RFI will be issued soon as it's still a top priority and currently dire up most important program.

*While Medium engine fighter is still priority which hinted on more Rafale and as he explained extra 36 Rafale will be put in table.

*36 Su30Mki is on shelf to be ordered (here we can't say whether he pointed on more Mkis or the remaining order of fighter which are in 272 sanctioned number which was planned strength of overall Flankers)

*IAF wants 42 squadrons by 2032, which means that the IAF is aggressively putting the procurement of new fighters effectively apart from upgrading existing fleet as with current modification program with Jaguar , MiG29 and Mirage 2000.

*Next Upgraded Second Squadron of MiG29UPG will be commissioned in Indian Air Force Day 8 October.

*Live Firing of Brahmos ALCM from Su-30Mki is scheduled on November this year.

*6 CJ-130 Airlifters is officially stationed in Arjan Singh AFB , and on behalf of Tanker fleet , Il78Mki is being under upgradation phase.

*40 LCA are ordered of Mk1 with 20 IOC standard and 20 FOC standard , apart from that 83 LCA Mk1A is being prepared for order and RFI will be issued soon.

*On FGFA , it's still on table and it's final decision is with MoD , IAF already submitted final review report with Vartamaan Committee too submitted it and both reports are consulted to be Classified until Final G2G Agreement is made.

*5 System S-400 is in consideration and if it's signed this current fiscal year than first system will be getting after 2 years.

*Training of second batch of 3 female air force pilot is under way and all 3 candidate gave performed par above than expectations , while more batch of female pilots are under way.
The above following points are prepared by analysing the conference

He did not comment much in tejas mk2.
If SE fighters are bought in numbers then we can bid a good bye to tejas mk2 program.

Most probably the air force will go for the F-16 block 70 aircrafts,as it is the most sane decision and will cement india usa military relations.

But such step will upset russia for sure and They may offer some military hardware to pakistan.

To make up that we will have to place order for 5 more batteries for s-400,originally we had planned for 12 batteries.

FGFA needs to be fast tracked, with china fielding it's j-20 and j-31 being ready in 5 years,FGFA needs to be done on priority basis. And if possible bring any private company involved. It will help us pave a smooth road for the AMCA.

IAF to start process to acquire single engine jets this month

Chief of Air Staff B S Dhanoa said having a new fleet of single engine jets was a "priority" for the IAF and the request for information (RFI) for it is likely to be issued "very soon".
:playball:
"Right now, we are concentrating on the single engine so as to make up the numbers with lower cost," he said. The IAF currently has 33 fighter squadrons against authorised strength of 42. :dude:

The fighter jets will be produced jointly by a foreign aircraft maker along with an Indian company under the recently launched strategic partnership model which aims to bring in high-end defence technology to India.'

The supply of Rafale jets is schedules to start from September 2019. Sources said the IAF will start receiving a fresh fleet of 36 Sukhoi jets from 2019. :cruisin2:

Asked about purchase of tankers for IAF, Dhanoa said, as the RFP for buyinbg them has been withdrawn, the IAF is now upgrading the IL-78 so that it can carry more fuel. The IL-78 is a Soviet-built four-engined aerial refuelling tanker :playball:

Asked about the fifth-generation fighter aircraft project (FGFA) with Russia, Dhanoa said a high-level committee has submitted its report to defence ministry which will take a call on it.

"The case is with the ministry of defence. The preliminary design phase has been completed. The Varthaman committee has submitted its report which is classified and we have also given our response," Dhanoa said.

42 Squadrons by 2032

269 Su-30MKIs
123 Tejas mk1/mk1A (deliveries 2016-2025)
120 Tejas mk2 (deliveries 2026-2032)
36 Rafales
67 Mig29
49 Mirage2000
145 Jaguars

Total = 809 Fighter jets.

With 20 jets per squadron on average, its close to 41 Squadrons.

There's the breakup.

Talk about foreign SE jets when that "Very Soon" actually happens.

PS - Notice how the chief has said "Very soon" without any specific timeline, while the headline decided to say "this month" just using another so called "unnamed official"?

AFAIK, they are eyeing the Predeator C "Avenger", not the Predator B "Reaper".

Bro, we need the FGFA and AMCA. All MiG-29, Mirage and Jaguar will be retired by 2030. So they will be replaced by a mix of more Rafael, FGFA and AMCA. Total ~260 aircraft. So maybe ~120 each of FGFA and AMCA and ~36 more Rafael?
All might not be inducted by 2032. Lets hope I am wrong about that.

From China To Fighter Aircraft, IAF Chief B S Dhanoa Speaks His Mind

He also said that in terms of assets, India was adequately equipped against Pakistan, and when it comes to China, it was not about what assets they have, but about what they can deploy in Tibet which is a plateau with an average elevation of 4,500 metres.

“If you take a single front scenario, either Pakistan or China, Pakistan… our capability is adequate”.
“If you take China, it is not what China has got, it is what China can project against us. To project against us is what they can get into Tibet. Look at Google earth and see what they can or cannot do from Tibet. That will give you an answer what is our capability in Tibet. Our capability is adequate,” he said.
