With regards to A Mitra’s hubris (that is all it is) my take is as follows:
- His hubris is a social media symptom. But for SM his profile would have been insignificant.
- What he proffers is an opinion which is worthless for me.
- It’s worthless because he is not an expert.
- An expert for me is defined similar to how the law defines an expert - “ a person with specialised knowledge based in the person’s training, study or experience.” Therefore, he is not a military expert.
- The Indian Armed forces is very professional and a lot officers have serious intellectual heft. This combined with some hard core on the ground experience makes them serious experts in their field.
- That the culture of the Indian armed forces encourages humility, respect etc is often misinterpreted by charlatans like Mitra as the armed forces being incompetent.
- Hence I listen carefully to what current and former armed forces officers have to say especially if they have specific experience on the topic.
- That the charlatan chooses to dismiss the entire armed forces further shows he is no expert as a real expert would politely disagree without attacking the credibility of the entire armed forces.
- He is doing well to live up to the idiom “a little knowledge is a dangerous thing...” and further still living up TO MY idiom of being just another TWIT ON TWITTER.
Therefore, when I come across hubris like that of Mitra, even where it is delivered in a clipped Indian accept, I ignore it rather than let it bother me.
