Actually, I'm in favor of Tik Tok coming back to India as a Microsoft subsidiary, provided they enter a legally binding agreement with the government that the entity does not - and will not - transmit any data to any Chinese company (other than normal transmission of public content), and that it will not censor any politicial criticism of the CCP, PLA, or PRC.

A Microsoft-owned Tik Tok in India would mean better content moderation (no more chicom/jihadi/love-jihad psy-ops), no restrictions on taking a shit on CCP, and it will provide rozgaar to our e-NREGA bumpkins, and atmanirbhar thots. It's a win-win.

What happens to Bytedance? It remains as a minority equity stakeholder. It gets to reap financial dividends from the market, but has no access to non-public user data. This way China makes money from Tik Tok, without having any back-doors to data. The US model will be replicated around the world.

On flip side it does take way chances of apps like chingari becoming popular. With MS buying Tiktok GOI will get unblock it. Long term apps like Chingari wont be able to compete with big players like MS. You have to maintain servers availability, keep providing new features to keep youngsters addicted to platform and attract advertisers. I am batting for MS buy failing, e-NREGA people need to find new job on chingari
