ByteDance set to wrap up Indian ops and lay off over 1,800 employees

ByteDance has decided to wrap up its India operations and Entrackr sources said that close to 90% staff would be laid off.

ByteDance has decided to wrap up its India operations and is cutting a large chunk of its employee base citing an absence of a clear direction on how and when its apps could be reinstated after the Indian government permanently banned 59 China-linked apps earlier this week.

While the company hasn’t revealed the number of employees who are going to be laid off, three Entrackr sources said that close to 90% staff would be asked to go between today and the first week of February.

“ByteDance will lay off over 1,800 staff in the next two weeks,” said one of the sources requesting anonymity. The company will be left with less than 250 employees in India. It also has vacated its office in WeWork (Cyber City) Gurgaon.”

Britain may join the Quad forum to counter China

BRITISH prime minister Boris Johnson may consider joining the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue(Quad) informal alliance when he visits India, reported The Times.

The strategic Quad forum consists of the US, India, Japan and Australia, and was formed to strengthen alliances to counter China.




According to reports, US president Biden is seeking to recruit more members to the forum.

UK foreign secretary Dominic Raab, during a trip to India last month, said that Britain had not ruled out joining the alliance.

Johnson is expected to travel to India as soon as conditions allow.

IAF need AIM 120 / METEOR in large nos to take down Plaaf j11s without evading. Going for additional mig 29 and su30 do not bring any advantage to our capability.

Their stuff is always sanction prone because they don't "approve" of us since the Cold War times, i.e we're seen as an unknown quantity.

Then again Erdgogand has been making liberal use of US and German equipment in Turkish armed forces interventions in Syria, Azerbaijan and dick-measuring in the Aegean, so I guess the sanctions meme can be evaded to a degree.
