Thats a great news. India should join SCO...as a member state. India's foreign policy has been independent and should continue to be independent as thats what suits a great emerging superpower's stature. Being subservient to any power for short term economic gain is not the true reflection of a any giant nation. India has a bright future and needs to continue to be friends and partner to all its neighbors and get into a "win-win partnership" with China, Russia, Iran, US, Europe and all other nations. "Strategic autonomy" and "self confidence" should remain the pillars of Indian worldview.
There is nothing to be afraid of ...Under BJP..I believe the days of intimidating and threatening India are gone. Pakistan can not be used anymore as it has to save itself from itself and has lost its trouble making role as a western puppet.

Wah we will be in August company of China, Pakistan, Iran, Russia. joining a forum by the Chinese for the Chinese.

Modi has revived the "Quad" dialog essentially an anti Chinese grouping.

SCO states can't have border disputes with each other. It's written into the SCO charter. If India wants to join the SCO it has to settle the border issue first.

Its China and Russia ,both inviting India to join SCO....If they don't want..thats fine. If a nation like India can thrive without being a UN security council member for decades ,it can thrive without SCO too. Don't try to devalue the power of 1.2 billion Indians. No one can isolate 1.2 billion people.
Its not north Korea or Libya.
The worst outcome will be if the west succeeds in creating severe enmity between India and China.....then, the old ,dirty "divide and conquer" game they can continue for many more decades. India is too big and too strong to become west's little puppy. Let Paki stay in that role.

What does India stand to gain from this? I can't think of any tangible benefits this could bring. What's the point of juggling a million things when you don't have to? Juggling for the sake of juggling amounts to masochism.

Indian's intent is crystal clear ~ to create hurdles for Pakistan's access as a full member now that Pakistan and Iran have submitted applications for SCO. By juggling it may have complicated the expansion process but indeed no substantial gains for India.

As SCO's top task is to tackle the Afghanistan challenge admitting peripheral players namely Iran and Pakistan shall be the priority. Getting both India and Pakistan aboard with their old feuds will only paralyzing the organization and diluting the efforts for the imperatives.

Whoever keeps fueling the feud between India and Pakistan ....is harming Pakistan even more as each day...Paki sectarian fights keep worsening and economy keeps falling. The one who claiming Paki friends will have to put more and more billions of dollars to keep Paki afloat. In worst case scenario, this might lead to 4 independent nations out of today's Paki, namely Punjabland, Sindhistan, Baluchistan and Pakhtunwa. Which of these pieces China want...and which one US will own ? Start selecting now !

I too fail to see any real benefits apart from f'cking with Pakis and trying to project balance between pro-Western and pro-Eastern stance. Its fine juggling all this as long GoI is confident of their ability to juggle, else no point over-complicating already complex international relations.

Out of the countries present and to join as full members, critical for India are Russia and Iran for energy and defense ties in case of the former. With China economic ties will grow but they are not going to support us in any other manner and actually deter us via arming Pakis. Pak itself is of no value to India.

So hopefully, India is looking to do this for some real benefits and not just dicking around.

Nawaz Sharif attending BRICS and SCO on July 9 in Ufa Russia

Moscow, Russia: The Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Nawaz Sharif will attend meetings of 7th summit of BRICS and SCO summit in Ufa Russia, reports Dispatch News Desk news agency.
The BRICS and SCO summits will take place on July 8-10 in Ufa. Russia expects the BRICS summit to trigger off the $100 billion BRICS New Development Bank and a currency reserve pool worth another $100 billion.

The meeting of Pakistani Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif is expected with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. India has a tense relations with Pakistan again over counter-terrorism issues but both leaders have cordial personal relations.

According to Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) head office, Pakistani Foreign Office has confirmed participation of Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif along with a foreign office delegation.
The SCO Summit in Ufa (Republic of Bashkortostan) is very important event this year because this summit will accept or reject applications waiting for decision for full membership.
“We will consider applications submitted by a number of states, including India and Pakistan. Iran has also filed an application, and I hope that the progress on the Iranian nuclear programme will help us to consider it,” said According to Mr. Lavrov, the relevant criteria for aspiring members were approved at the 2014 SCO Summit in Dushanbe (Tajikistan). he said.
The 7th BRICS summit will discuss economic cooperation among members while the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit will discuss important regional issues particularly of security, politics, the economy and the humanitarian sphere. Pakistan is seeking full membership of SCO and its inclusion in BRICS also.
The SCO will be represented both by heads of member states and heads of observer states. The topic of the meeting, which will take the form of an open-ended discussion, is cooperation for prosperity and development.
Russia is hosting both events in a big way and the Central Bank of Russia issued 3-rouble commemorative silver coins for the July SCO and BRICS summits in Ufa on June 22, 2015.
The coin entitled “A Meeting of the SCO Heads of States Council in Ufa” will be 39 mm in diameter. The front will show the coin’s nominal value, the date of issuance and the embossed national emblem of the Russian Federation. The reverse side will have an embossed official emblem of the SCO above, colour images of the member states’ flags in the middle, and below, a stylised seven-petal Kurai flower, which is part of Bashkortostan’s national emblem and flag.
First and foremost the Ufa summit is an opportunity for Russia, which in 2014-2015 holds the rotating presidency of both the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS, to showcase its resilience.

PS: Is Pakistan willing to join BRICS? They cannot go well in SAARC, forget G20 and have dreams of joining BRICS. :frusty:

Misleading heading, typical Pakistani cultural habit of gate crashing.

Nawaj Shariff noora is attending SCO but Pakistanis like they have habit of getting a photograph taken with American leaders and other influential personalities want to tag themselves with BRICS also.

Since BRICS is happening at the same venue, Pakistani like they over stayed in a T20 Match to shout against India in which their team was not even playing with us; they are making sure the same shameless trend is done here too.

This year the BRICS agenda is for New Development Bank, which has already started its work and to get formalized further with other nuances discussed and its pool of wealth increased to 100 Billion dolor (at Russia's call) as participating nations are going to pledge their contributions.

A nation that runs on IMF money wants to tag itself with BRICS without knowing agenda of the organization, which itself is a distant dream for Pakistan to think about pledging even couple of millions, is a joke of the year.

Wont be surprise to hear from a certain country that they are trying to make India and Pakistan closer.

(When it is the own failure of that country on dealing and giving to Pakistan and attempt to deflect that -----> And wont be surprise to see the self-confidence of Pakistan in recognizing that and talking to India straight.)

Is it also possible in today times to have a coup d'etat when a leader is overseas ... for example when there is not smoothness at home and people wonder why go overseas at this time - perhaps cut the visit short (not talking about Pakistan for a change).
