I agree with you that we have to import some weapons to fight a war ..But what I am saying is when single engine Tejas is available then why go for single engine f 16 , when we are developing amca then why go for f 35 , I have no problem in buying 200 rafales because we don't have anything in that class...But when indigenous product is available it should be given priority over foreign one...
AMCA is on paper. There is no timeline when it will be inducted.Shall we wait or should we be ready with F 35s to take on PLAAF?

Lets be honest,F16 block 70 is far more capable than a LCA.The LCA has got orders for 120 planes.Let that be fulfilled. In a war the capability of the plane will matter not its origin.

OK but we should not completely abandon our domestic projects for the sake of foreign fighters...Let ADA develop amca and provide them all necessary funds even if we're buying f 35..

Do you know we can flood the iaf with LCA in amount we are going to spend on 90 f 16 s and not to mention we will get first f 16 only in 2019 (maybe even latter) ...By then LCA mk 2 will be ready...

F16 manufacturing lines are going to be shifted to India. If India opts for F16, India will cater the spare parts to the entire world.

By opting to F16, India will nullify the Pakistani advantage, we also have LCA, Su 30 MKI and Rafales.
Weapons sales are more political than technical.

Once you buy the F16, the US will start selling submarines and aircraft carriers to Pakistan so that you can then buy a bigger submarine and aircraft carrier to nullify it. In the process they will nullify India.

Saying "Let's be honest" is not a suitable substitute for making a factual point.

No one here is saying that LCA is a better plane than F16. However, air fighting is not like arm wrestling. Planes don't fight it out feature versus feature. If it was, then instead of pilots, scientists would have fought wars on paper. Suddenly one scientist develops a new system, BAM! all other planes have lost the battle now!

A fighter is just one gear in a large war fighting machinery. The goal of war is not to get the most expensive gold plated gear. Planes are chosen based on doctrine and current air defense matrix, which involves ground radar, missile defense system, economic warfare, cyber warfare and diplomatic clout to shape global events.

If one gets in the business of getting the most expensive weapon every time, the budget will run out pretty soon.

@Pinky Chaudhary is right. For the price of one F16, you can have multiple LCAs. Is a single F16 better than multiple LCAs which we can replace it with? once we have many planes in the air, even the enemy gets the pressure to induct more planes to tackle our fleet. In order for this quantity war to be won, one cannot buy expensive shit all the time. Create one squadron with a long range radar Rafale leading the pack of 18 LCAs sharing radar data with them via tactical link. The LCAs can be used as missile carrying trucks.

By your logic, China should have given up its aspiration to be a world player, given that Chinese equipment is low quality and cheap. Or should China also stand in line to buy 500 F16s? The more you rely on other countries to solve your problems, the more your foreign policy becomes beholden to them. A fighter jet is not a knife. They can block access to spares whenever they want, so even if it were a better plane, it would be useless to us if it is made unavailable due to political disagreements.

This is the same country that blocked GPS signals during Kargil. People here have some short memories.

LCA 1a, F16, Rafale, Mirage 2000 and MIG 29 have different role. None of them kills the others role. To top it all the grand Daddy of all Su30mk1 has the pivotal role in air offence.

So bear it in mind none of them is going to kill either LCA -2 or AMCA. Built on Indian technology alone AMCA is ten years away. With no hope of reviving PAK FA deal, effort should be redoubled to get F35, although US will be reluctant to give it to non NATO members.

F 16 will kill lca

F 35 will kill amca

Pak Fa will kill something else.

How are we supposed to keep the numbers and technology in IAF without buying foreign planes?AMCA is on paper while lca still lacks FOC.

Will the enemy wait till we get indigenious tech ready?

War has to be fought with weapons no matter local or imported. We are at the best 10yrs away from one.

All this F 16 killing LCA F35 killing AmCA reminds me that since 1947 till 1991-92 this same fear mongering kept India as a closed economy and we regressed economically in respect to China.

Again this same thinking will kill our armed forces in comparision to China.Ultimately JVs between Indian and foreign manufacturers will strenthen our defence industry.

May I Know...........HOW?

And will that LCA have advance AESA radar maybe with GaN, CFT, Internat EW suit, Range, Weapons load capacity and several other things?

Please add these things to LCA and see the cost of LCA and then say this. Do you know SU30mki made in India by HAL costs more than direct import? Now compare & say what you said again......

so basically , india want f35 and US pushing for f16.....and this logic of gradual shift is just bullshit coz if we buy f16 then next purchase will take another 20 year later....

but one intresting observation ,...

if iaf looking for f35 , then its confirm that fgfa with russia is completly writeoff...

The hypersonic MIG 41 is better option over LM and Sukhoi.

But it makes one thing clear that Modi asked for F35 production lines but was asked to start with f16, then move to F35.

It's a total dependence contingent upon India working with U.S. against common enemy. In case India doesn't, F35 may not come. We stop working with Russia on FGFA, don't work on AMCA, we are gone. We need to have all the options open. Continue on war scale on Tejas, AMCA and other options.

I feel gradual shift is a better option than sudden F35 purchase at triple the cost and with no certainty that plane will be ready to be operational in three years, software troubles apart.

fighter aircrafts are expensive , and those who produce them are unwilling to share tech ,...export versions are highly downgraded......

tejas and amca are THE only option ....

tajas is almost there....

presently what we looking is the 5g tech for amca and tejas m2 , either from russis ,US or france.....and willing to spend too.......seem everybody is just playing a wait and watch presently....

We would prefer the technology, not the plane (F-16)
India's best bet for MAKE IN INDIA, is Tejas, But importantly we have to get an engine which we can put on any plane and export to any country we want to without any restrictions. That will truly be Make in India as it should be,

Let us for a moment assume that we take F-16 Block 70.. would we be able to sell to countries like Vietnam, Taiwan or other countries without restriction? We cannot. The Americans have themselves avoided giving Taiwan F-16 because they dont want to upset China. Also any plane we export will be needing USA permission. Thus F-16 will only bring planes for IAF and potential overhaul hub for other users and cheaper spares. But importantly .. WE CANNOT EXPORT IT.
On other hand, Tejas with our own Kaveri engine, and UTTAM AESA, we can export it to Friendly countries and make defence pact with these countries. Thus becoming stronger as a force.
