As per BBS's own numbers, BD GDP is going to contract in nominal terms for FY23.

From ~$460B last year to ~$453B this year.

Wait, they are misrepresenting exchange rates now? How can they calculate GDP in US Dollars using an exchange rate of 97, when their exchange has been south of 100 for all months except two for this FY???

Their FY starts from July 1 BTW. @FalconSlayers @Crazywithmath

Yup exchange rate used is 97.81. That means next year GDP in $ will come under heavy pressure again.

It's hovering 108.5 in interbank.

Imagine being BD.

You are an LDC; need export-competitiveness.

RMGs are your primary exports; they buy your product because they are dirt cheap.

You peg your currency @ inflated rates because your elites love those sweet imported stuffs.

You claim to be the next Asian tiger; poor economic complexity notwithstanding.

Artificially inflated exchange rates dent your competitiveness.

Elevated fuel prices force you to beg from IMF.

IMF does not trust you; thinks you manipulate your FOREX and macroeconomic numbers at your will.

You are forced to devaluate your currency.

Your nominal GDP contracts big time; goes years back.

You cry American conspiracy.

Barring Kaushik Basu and Mihir Sharma nobody takes you seriously.

Don't be a Bangladesh.

@gslv markIII @Crazywithmath @Cheepek and people are supposed to believe their fake GDP numbers? Not only in absolute or per capita terms but even in growth rate Indian FMCG market is much bigger than lungideshi one. And FMCG actually is a very important indicator of the economy and citizen prosperity and it generally grows at the same rate as the economy.

The fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) market in Bangladesh has now surpassed Tk30,000 crore ($3.5 billion). The annual growth is about seven to eight percent.

FMCG industry in India has seen a remarkable transformation over the last two decades. With a growth rate of 14.7 pr cent, the FMCG industry has been projected to grow to a market size of almost $220 billion by 2025.

What does FMCG stand for? FMCG stands for Fast-Moving Consumer Goods products sold quickly and relatively cheaply. Some examples of FMCG products include packaged foods, beverages, toiletries, cosmetics, cleaning supplies, and other low-cost household items.

Before you guys laugh it out , pls consider that we already have anywhere between 2-3 malaun lungis here . Could be more . And the way things are going there it's just the lull before the storm. If it's not the economy it'd be politics & then there's climate change to consider or the way I see it all three together . I see things going south very rapidly next decade for Kangladesh & we'd be facing the brunt.

To add to it there's the exploding demography of malaun lungis in Assam & WB . It'd open up such a situation in the whole of India beginning with the east that if we don't prepare for the worst we'd be caught napping again. And of the 3 threats we face , the one I consider the one from Kangladesh to be the most existential.

They're primed to tear us apart from within unlike the other 2 . And that's the beauty of their deception . While we're busy tackling the other two , the most insidious among the threats we face are strengthening themselves inside our land , preparing the ground for their fellow Rockybuls & Sockybuls to join them , with our own playing more than their part in aiding their own destruction apart from ours.

It's the same story playing out with the Chins in Mizoram & the Kukis / Zo / Chin in Manipur.

India should give Bharat Ratna to this guy :

He was military dictator and kind of played soft islamist to get support from right wing muslims, but he wanted to educate bangladeshis and pushed population control. That brought down the fertility rate. Imagine a Bangladesh with fertility rate of Pakistan. Would be nightmare.
