This city's look is actually not that bad if we look areal videos. One bad picture is not enough to get the overall picture of a big city. I have found this video of Chittagong city which looks pretty impressive for a poor country like Bangladesh. This city would not look out of place even in India.
Its Cityscape look like a tier 2 or 3 Indian City with lots of mid-rise buildings..Even cities like Surat, Lucknow will do better than Chittagong. Chittagong is suppose to be the commerical city of BD second in line after Dhaka..It has a decent port for exporting its garment products but thats about it. The city still lacks proper mass transit, planned neighborhood etc.

Google street views most commonly give picture from 2013, 2014 for non western poorer countries. So it may give a distorted picture of what the area looks now. I have seen many google street views where roads are two lane, but when I see them in google map, it usually turned into 4-6 lane. Once you descend from map to street view, 6 lane expressway become 2 lane gully roads. because they were showing the condition of roads that existed in 2012 or 2013.

This city Chittagong(or Chattogram officially) is building quite a good road recently. They are constructing the first underwater river tunnel in South Asia which is supposed to inaugurate at the end of 2022. Here is the outer ring road of Chittagong. This road is 33 feet above sea level also act as a city protective sea wall from cyclone. They are quite behind us at road infrastructure building but also trying to make some progress.

They are building it that tunnel using Chinese loan and help like they did with Padman Bridge. That is the first tunnel they built using TBM or even in BD. In India, TBM tunneling toh gali gali ki baat ho gai hai. The Dhaka-Chittagong highway is still 4-lane and needs 6 laning but hasn't started. They make grand announcement, like Dhaka-Chittagong expressway, dhaka-chittagong high speed trains etc but failed to start or complete on time.
All this is due to rampant corruption among the military generals and the contractors..

This city is actually not bigger than Surat or Lucknow. Each of them have around 5-6 million people. And the so called 'commercial capital of BD' is just a hogwash. Every important headquarter in Bangladesh is concentrated in Dhaka. That country is very much Dhaka centric, their ruling elites and businessmen don't want to move outside of that Goddamn city. You are right about Chittagong lacking any decent public transport, but I have heard that, they are planning to build a MRT in Chittagong as well. They are preparing feasibility study for this purpose.

After China, South Korea joins race to win Bangladesh’s second metro rail project in Chattogram

That high speed train and bullet train projects were never supposed to begin at first place. They were just some castle in cloud development stunt by the ruling party to win over gullible people. Meantime they pocketed hundreds of crore Taka in the name of feasibility study and consultancy. Looting the money was the main point. They knew very well those projects were a non starter, neither they are required for a poor country nor they have that kind of money.

Garments is exactly why. Bangladesh is a proto-industrial country classified as a Least Developed Country (LDC) since it doesn't have heavy industries and infrastructure.

Low cost garment industry doesn't require rise of large scale mechanized heavy industry and other advanced allied industries for consumption by population.
Textile is best bet for LDC, it isn't a solution for long term growth though, given Bangladesh's TFR.

Most TBMs in India are Chinese. I'm wondering whether any Indian firm has developed an indigenous TBM?

Bangladesh from North to South doesn't exceed 800 kilometers which I can travel from car in less than 24 hours. Neither population is affluent nor shifting cargo through bullet train is useful. In fact, Bangladesh's conventional rail and road freight per capita is a fraction of India.

Bullet train is nothing more than a thing like wild idea of a 14 years old fanboy in YouTube comments section.

Advantages!!! Why should not we take it, when we can.
But literally we are on another planet when it come to optimisms and trust in our government. Except for lelis, jihadist, seculars, brown sepoy we are enjoying while world is in chaos. The upright state where we are in is literally unthinkable for most of the world.

there's no point in arguing with these ungrateful kanglus , ummah is bigger than logic for them

its always good to have delusional enemies , just like porkiland which lost to us 4 times even after 1000s of blunders done by politicians and babus

we ll just make a regular hexagon out of kangladesh , cutting traingles from all 4 sides where there are still some hindus left and also expand the siliguri corridor , when the time comes
but delusion can be beneficial in a narrow sense in that it can lead to doubling down and greater fanaticism which could lead to better morale.modern nihilistic consumerist types are not the types to be easily motivated to fight unlike fanatics of various types.

Their corruption is so high that it will humble Partha Chatterjjee and other ministers of TMC in WB.

How can you say Amar Sonar Kangladesh is a proto-industrial country ..😡 (Bilol Bhai).
According to him, His country is urbanizing faster than India, hence the trends prove that his country will win in the end.

Mf is China simping just it build Padma Bridge and stick a heavy bill to the govt. He failing to realize the China prospered since it was already surrounded by East Asian Tiger Economies ( Japan, South Korea, Taiwan etc) all these had advanced industrial export and they used China for low end manufacturing/assembling in the begining followed high end products ..
Meannwhile look at India's Neighbour hood..except ASEAN which are middle-income countries except Singapore, most are kangals and failed states..

Neither China prospered because of RMG (but heavy industries) nor Bangladesh stands anywhere near China or India in RMG either (while India is focused on heavy and electronic industries).

Textile sector is biggest in Bangladesh not because its revolutionary but because Bangladesh is technologically too backward to create a real industry.

Bangladesh will stabilise into a middle income trap after saturation of textile and that's best future of BD, at least better than Pakistan which is not going reach even there.
