Gwalior is their base. They would not be stationed anywhere else as they do not have the facilities to maintain them unless it was pre-positioned.

The accounts says they were scrambled, ie not in the middle of a CAP. Unless IAF published that Orbat it means nothing. It is really frustrating following this being used to French press conferences publishing details hours after an action.
Mirages are routinely forward based and support infrastructure is maintained at several critical locations around the country for them since they have always been an important part of the combat inventory. During Kargil, the fleet was forward based in Punjab and Haryana to get them closer to the battlefield (as IAF lacked IFR equipment back then).

In this particular instance, the Mirages involved in the skirmish were part of a 8 bird detachment forward based in Punjab to carry out CAP / QRA. They are still there and performing their role.

Gwalior maybe home base of Mirages, but they can be operationally deployed anywhere.

Gwalior was deliberately chosen on 26th so as not to arouse any suspicion.

How often has France squared off against a nuclear weaponized foe? In the last 50 years have they faced a serious air force alone ever (without hiding behind USA)? It is easy to call press conferences and reveal everything when you are bombing Burkina Faso, Chad etc.

SO the MMRCA 2 is gathering steam and IAF is close to finalising the Tech-Para for 114 fighters. This 26/27 episode has actually been a blessing in disguise for the IAF and Wing-CO Abhi's Bison loss has strengthened the resolve for better fighters. Even Pappu has toned down his Rafale rhetoric and rightly so coz he knows that the defense educated Janta will kick his butt if he as much as utters even a word against it !!

I think we should go for 6 more squadrons of Rafales under MMRCA 2 besides the 2 already ordered under the MMRCA 2. The below IAF ORBAT for Rafale squadrons will take care of all future eventualities as the tip of the IAF's spear :

PAKISTAN Specific Rafales
Jodhpur: 1 Squadron of Rafale under MMRCA 2 against PAF Jacobabad
Jamnagar: 1 Squadron of Rafale under MMRCA 2 - Should sort out the Gwadar/PN as well as Karachi

CHINA & PAKISTAN - Dual Front Role
Ambala : 1 Squadron of Rafale + 1 Squadron more under MMRCA 2 (as infrastructure would already be available)

Ambala based Rafales can also counter any PLAAF move in Ladakh/Leh & PAF Mushaf & Mianwali

CHINA Specific Rafales

Hashimara : 1 Squadron of Rafale + 1 Squadron more under MMRCA 2 - essential to guard the Chickens Neck
Shillong/Tejpur : 1 Squadron of Rafale under MMRCA to counter PLAAF's offensive in AP
Gorakhpur : 1 Squadron of Rafale under MMRCA

Mirages should get Meteors and be located at either Pathankot or Srinagar to replace the Bison's from there and in future should be supplemented with Tejas squadrons

New para. Then trials then cost tender then cost negotiation. Our children may see the mmrca.

We faced off against Russia and Syria last year and we had the detailed press briefing that morning. When we conduct joint operations we have an AOR and our own mission objectives of which the public gets a detailed briefing of what occurred. There is nothing secret about expired air operations.

The CdG air group could wipe out PAF in 24 hours if it needed to. It would be a Turkey shoot with 30 Rafale F3Rs equipped with Meteor and Scalp. if we really needed to we could turn that country to ash in 5 minutes.

It's good to know that the Rafale F3R that we are acquiring has major software and hardware upgrades. Two new capabilities would be game changers in combat aviation. The use of the MBDA Meteor BVR missile together with the Thales RBE2 AESA radar, and the Thales TALIOS long-range airborne targeting pod improves target detection, reconnaissance, and identification, day and night, for high-precision air-to-ground strikes to the next level.

We need to get/manufacture at least 4 more squadrons in addition to the two that we are acquiring in fly away condition.

You are thinking that Amraams wont be fired. Right?

No you faced off against only bombed out Syria and that too with top cover provided by USA. NATO and Russia agreed not to Target each other.

Also, to bomb Pakistan first you have to cross Iran and Afghanistan. 3 super powers have already failed there. You can try your luck. Anyway talk is cheap.

In addition of two sqd ordered we have to go for two more sqd immediately after the election result are out for continuity of the supply of aircraft ... then the local manufacture is still 3 years from now ....

India also must explore the opportunities of getting some more Mirage - 2000s either from the gulf countries or Greece ...

India must initiate the process to get 19 or 21 odd Mig-29s from Russia immediately ...

Indian must order another 40 SU-30 MKI too for locally produced in India ...

Indian need numbers badly ...

If Meteor didn't kill them first it is pretty clear they are no match for Spectra, even M2Ks can operate unhindered.
If swedish awacs and chinese SAMs dont see you first.

Russia is there, Syria launched over 100 SAMs and hit nothing but air. There was no defence, when France chooses to strike, the target will be destroyed. Just as IAF managed to get a flight of 12 M2Ks into Pakistan and were not even detected.

To bomb Pakistan we have a nuclear carrier that can launch 30 Rafale M. We also have bases in UAE, Djibouti and La Reunion if we need air bases in the region.

Yaa heard all that before from other suppa powas. If the French air Force was operating inside Russia then we can understand. Bombing Syria when the Russians had no modern Sam's is a totally different thing. Did you do anything after s400.

Our missiles flew right over the S-400 air defence zone, they never saw them nor did the Russians even detect our aircraft by their own admission.

Confirmed by RM that there is NO option clause on the G-to-G deal. Any follow up order would have to be MII (under MMRCA 3.0) or with a totally new G-to-G
