Assuming India doesn't lack Industrial, scientific and techincal expertise it wouldn't have been a lot smarter to buy 100% foreign instead, don't cha think so ??

PS: As is evident I am no HAL or DRDO fanboy.
No, not at all. Keeping design of ALH indigenous with some help from out side was the smartest. Since design is ours at any time in future ALH can become 70% indigenous considering the R&D in aviation keeps the same speed. BTW its always the customer who decides what they want in what they are buying considering seller provides flexibility. In ALH, HAL gives provides that flexibility and it is evident from its sell to IAF that it hardly any matters to HAL if IAF asks for imported seats and Indian rotor blades made of advanced composites.

PS: To be a fanboy one has to understand things first by keeping it in right prospective always.

IAF HAL LCH Light Combat Helicopter NDTV documentary in Hindi

Quite enjoyable, in fact very enjoyable, watched some very un-seen videos of LCH, some good explanation on part of test pilot in Hindi(in spite he being a non Hindi guy). But the most enjoyable part was NDTV showing its excellence where they started talking about AH-64 Apachi, giving all the data, performance parameters, operational achievements etc but showing video of MI-25/35................... Only god knows when this [now Barkha Dutt famed] NDTV will improve its news making and leave the habit of news cooking. God Bless NDTV!

LCH orders! :)

Possible LCH sale to Ecuadorian Air Force!
This is no conform report..

E.A.F already use ALH and very satisfied with its preformance..

Now, E.A.F is showing positive interest in LCH..

As both Chopper share more than 80% hard-wares, logistics is easy..

I saw this post of urs in some other forum you posted.

BTW Good News for India if actually the EAF is looking for LCH, i think its a potent platform and moreover it would be easy to produce it in numbers if HAL gets some foreign orders and bring about fast changes that might be available for future upgrades that might be required during course of time.

Angle of Attack has learnt that the second prototype of the ambitious Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) program could be displayed during Aero India 2011. At present HAL is racing against time to finish the second prototype which will be weaponized. Since the first prototype was not a weaponized aircraft the second prototype will have more sub-systems thus there could be a delay. If the second prototype doesn't make it to the Aero-India which will be held in mid February than it could be unveiled possible by mid 2011.
The second prototype will play a crucial role in development of the aircraft as it will be used for weapons testing which is not possible on the first prototype. First prototype is currently being used to test the aircrafts basic design, flight performance and payload simulation. It as logged 50hrs of flight time and is currently undergoing routine maintenance and will resume testing very soon.
LCH will form the backbone of India's weak attack helicopter armory once it enters service by 2012-13. Currently there is firm order of 179 from the Army and the Air-force which could go up. Angle of Attack wishes all the best to HAL and everybody else involved in the LCH program.

I truly hope LCH is a complete success. India needs to beat China in the attack chopper game. Not to mention 179 helos mean about 400 engine orders. :happy_7:

HAL has invited bids from global vendors for lightweight armor panels that will replace the heavy metal ones that currently protect the flying prototype, program officials say
I think this is a sign of maturity by HAL.

A few years ago they would have tried to develop those panels indigenously and caused delays in delivers or get the overweight tag.
The LCH already has a load of Imported parts.

But as long as they can get the helicopter into the armed forces , they can always develop indigenous equipment for the platform latter.
Even private sector will develop alternatives as long as they know they have a market to tap a large fleet in service is exactly what that is.

IF anything we learned from LCA , Arjun and through example of Dhurv.
Timely delivery and Full capabilities are what matter most , indigenous development comes after.

gogbot,

what you are referring to in the bolded part refers to the raw material not the components fabricated in India. remember LCH is tandem version of basically the ALH DHRUV with part stealth thrown in as part of the design. most of the components are common to both.

ALH is 90% indian sourced components -

http://india-defence.com/reports-4889

similar would be the case with LCH.

Good move ,now with LCH we need fixed wing aircrafts jus like Su 25 UBM,Sukhoi which is now just started production from yesterday. 2 squadorn of Su 25UBM is enough aganist 200+ odd tanks in battle field. Thatswhy the known as TankBusters.http://chaffandflare.blogspot.com/2010/12/sukhois-su-25ubm-completes-state.html
I agree, CAS aircraft are in need in IA aviation..

Well of the top of my head.

There is the
Engine(it really is french)
The NExter main gun
Rocket pods
The Air to air missiles

HAL also may or may not import a few of the sub-systems like Self protection suit , rotor blades , Engine Controls(Probably from France as well) etc.
I have heard stuff about the Avionics and displays being from Israel ,
All i have is this old article for that
http://www.iai.co.il/28973-28093-en/MediaRoom_NewsArchives_2003.aspx

Not sure if this is still the case however. They have been working towards sourcing from Indian suppliers.

So far as i care HAL is making use of the Global supply Chain to give our Soldiers the best capabilities.
even Air Marshal P.K.Barbora said "proud Indian".
