Does this new order of rudra eat into prospective lch order. How about we get rid of old mk1s and replace it with mk3s(with added door hmg/mmg) instead going for new rudras. Lch happy, alh happy, hal happy, iaf happy BUT most important of all internet jingos happy.
I think ALH is better for mountain warfare, due to ability to first insert troops, then provide CAS.

However, purely as an attackheli, LCH is better. Will be best suited for Punjab - Rajasthan sector in massed tank battles.

Nope not eating anything Rudra is basically for transport and will perform that role.

LCH is an allout attack helicopter.

And yes old Helis will be upgraded once they are up for extensive overhaul and maintenance.

Can someone provide detail on its armour in comparison to Mi 24 /28 hind

Ecuador had bad experience
Didn't we covered it up nicely ?

It was longtime ago anyway... Let's see how it turns out the newer version are improved upon past learning and hopefully production faults too are removed off with better quality and product management.

Let's be positive from now onwards when china can do it why not us.

Great industrial base, and spares availability plus support sending human resources including military engg. China want to increase its dominance in other countries. HAL can't match any of those, currently, only plus is current gov is supportive.

Indian Air force to order around 50 Rudra Attack helicopter

Impressed with the performance of the armed version of the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH), the Indian Air Force (IAF) is planning to buy more such copters for high-altitude operations in the Himalayas and the desert sector on the western front.

The copter, which is called the ALH Mark-IV version and is known by its military name ‘Rudra’, was used in Eastern Ladakh during the stand-off with China. The IAF has one squadron of 14 to 16 copters and is looking to get at least three more squadrons. The Army also operates the ‘Rudra’.

A senior functionary told The Tribune that “more Rudra are being purchased and a case is being moved to the Ministry of Defence”. The copter did “very well” in the sub-sector north (SSN) — the military name for high-altitude plateau and sensitive Depsang plateau in Northern Ladakh, the functionary added.

Helipads in these locations are at an altitude of more than 15,000 ft.

Produced by state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the copters are adapted for high altitudes and powered by ‘shakti engines’ that can take it to 20,000 ft. The engine is designed and made under a joint venture between Safran of France and the HAL.

The weapon fitment on ALH Mk-IV includes a 20 mm turret gun, 70 mm rocket pods and air-to-air missile. The copter is expected to be equipped with the newly made anti-tank missile, Helina.

The copter can be used for anti-tank warfare and close air support for ground troops. The maximum take-off weight of the helicopter is 5,500 kg and it can carry a payload of 2,600 kg.

The helicopter has multifunctional displays and an automatic flight control system for pilots.

‘Rudra’ can fly up to 20,000 ft

Earlier it was reported that Indian Navy to acquire 60 advanced light helicopters from HAL. Based on the suggestions of a joint study with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) last October, the Navy has issued its broad requirements to HAL in January for acquisition of 60 utility helicopters based on the ALH for maritime operations, defence sources said.
