For that to happen, Indian RW establishments will have to build their network with the likes of Fox News. Such a network barely exists. However, there is a potential downside to this; we might end up depending too much on trying to explain our way into Washington DC.And this is where the counter-narrative opportunity has struck- the "fifth-generation hybrid information warfare" Generals should use this opportunity to "inform" the West and the world about the legal debacle of Twitter against "a journalists' free speech whose brother was targeted by terrorists". Articles and interviews in Fox/other RW outlets is a must- the same way Razdan's folly was covered as some sort of national "saazish" to befool her in the NYT.
That can be a problem. You see, the present dispensation in White House as well as their lower level officials are well aware of our internal situation. This negative image is purposely created to generate artificial pressure on us, that can later be used as a geopolitical leverage.
It is important to convey clearly that Washington is not a stakeholder to whatever happens inside India. This requires blowing hot and cold on them in the following ways:
The hot:
- Minimize their participation in anything that requires us to deal with an internationally-funded organization of any type within Indian borders. This could be an NGO, a Church, or a separatist group for all we care;
- Mercilessly punish them for violating local laws & if DC intervenes, go to (1);
- IPC has provision to protect the reputation of citizens, organizations, or public body such as the government; when someone slanders the government (usually targeting 1 or 2 ministers), the ruling government can file a defamation case against the media entity if they fail to produce the proof.
- Freedom of speech in India is only to express opinion & not to defame someone without proof - the govt should use this liberally (all puns intended);
- Raise our concerns of racial killings, BLM, treatment of latin American immigrants, women & children at the borders, etc., every time we meet with the US Secretary of State whenever they raise "human rights issues" in India; It cannot be a mirror image but be disguised as a threat to Indian establishments & Indian diaspora living there;
- Scrap allowing FDI in private media channels, including through foreign-backed, Indian-registered entities. If the company/NGO/Foundation/Trust does not originate in India without any foreign donations, then it can't open a news channel. Period;
- Prioritize US investments in other sectors such as heavy engineering, fintech, services, IT, AI-ML, etc. Ease the mechanism for their companies similar to the Japan+ format;
- Encourage American angel investors to fund new tech in upcoming fields, but developing a national level integrated university competition for both public and private university students to showcase their innovations/inventions - the US uses that model & would be happy to partake there;
