Re: Restore confidence? Take action on Dr Singh

Politics was never for MMS. He is a technocrat. He quits and we might see worse in India while the UPA is in power.

I don't believe Modi is at loggerheads with the RSS.
The damage is already done my friend!!

Understand the political compulsions. The same guy was the hero in the 90s when he had a free run. And it's not only about Sonia, but pesky allies. Blame the political system. Unless we have political reforms, these issues will remain. Not only the UPA, even the NDA will face the music. BJP too has to listen to RSS. It will also have to listen to its allies. Someone like Nitish will make life miserable for the BJP that is if they partner in the next election.
He is unfit to be the `leader` of 1.2 billion people then. If this guy had a conscience he would have quit long back. It is impossible that the brazen loot that seems to have been going on by UPA has been unnoticed by him. He is not an honest man, what excuse can be given for ignoring the humongous scams right under his nose.

One of my relatives used to work in a nationalised bank as Deputy manager in a busy branch that used to give lot of loans. The Senior manager would ask him to put his signature of approval on many project proposals which were known to be dicey. This guy had passed college in the village while working in his father's little roadside hotel. He quit his bank job and started a small hotel while his wife, also a bank employee continued to work. When his business was well established wife also quit.

I guess conscience/honesty - these remain middle class concepts. Rich could not care less and the poor struggling to keep their heads above the water...

The govt. is out of funds due to its populist measures. SC ruled against retrospective taxation in this case and govt. still moved forward with it like an ignorant kid.

Many things have changed. To name a few:

1. Telenor suffered due to corruption. That might be due to their own negligence but it shows India in poor light with govt. blatantly involved in corruption.
2. High deficits
3. No further reforms
4. Global downturn
and many others.....

There are always failures in macro-economic predictions but there are some pitfalls, which can always be avoided.
Telenor cannot be given a clean chit. They are either directly or indirectly complicit or they are fools.

The other day ejaz showed that the fuel subsidy is far more than any "socialist" program of the government.

No further reforms is thanks to the entire political class. Something as basic as GST has not see the light of day and it's not exactly the ruling party's fault.

Other reforms are stonewalled by allies. Pension reforms stuck, FDI stuck (opposition too involved) labor will never see reform as its a politically sensitive issue and many parties will oppose it across the political spectrum. Which brings me back to my problem with the political system.

Or let me put it this way. MMS is doing a favor on India by not resigning so that worse things happen while the UPA is in power. It's the UPA which is the problem and MMS probably knows worse will happen if he goes.

Re: Islamic rule in India will curb violent crimes, communal riots - Scholar

I agree with the author. Our nikamma PM MMS has fostering a situation where corruption is tolerated at all levels and no action is taken against the corrupt. He also needs to be punished along with other corrupt ministers for allowing corruption and not taking any measures to curb the same.
I agree, really a very good article. Sec. 2(n) Cr.p.c. includes 'omission' into the definition of 'offence'.
The way MMS defends his corrupt ministers and keeps silence on the decisions of public interests pushes him into the category of corrupt ministers.
Even if the remote control removed he cant take decisions on his own, he cant say a firm "No" if he disagrees.
Only a strong person should become PM of the country.

We sure need him and along with that a clear mandate to a single party so that there is no khichdi. Political reforms too are needed.
You do not need to worry about mandate. He was good at buying votes!!!

Re: Restore confidence? Take action on Dr Singh

He is responsible to the nation and not to the remote control. He is the one who should remove it or quit if helpless.

We need a statesman and he fails on most accounts.
He is used by the corrupt govt but 101% responsible for all he is doing in the name of remote control.

What worse can it get than what we are already facing?. If he is such a honest man, then he should leave his dishonest behavior behind and work for the country and not madam G or else quit and tell the country the circumstances under which he has quit. People will understand. He is acting like an altar boy waiting for Rahul Gandhi to step in right time. He is the head of the state and he should behave as one not hide behind the skirt of madam G.

As some one metaphorically said, he is serving as a Shikandi in Mahabharat shielding the G family politics..

Subramanian Swamy said during the 2G discussions, that he did not press MMS to resign because that would not help - MMS is "dabbu", but is at least "vyaktigat imandaar" (personally honest). If MMS is forced to resign, that "buddhu Rahul Gandhi" will become PM, which is of no use to anyone.

Chidambaram becoming PM, or worse Rahul becoming PM and worst Sonia becoming PM.

Sonia or Rahul should become PM and show their competence or the lack of. This power without responsibility is dishonesty at highest level. Even the kings and queens of yore had to lead the troops into battle if required.

I would prefer if the PM and MPs laid greater value in honesty and ethics rather than indulging in shameful skulduggery for political gains.
