if total indigenization is the way to go than only DRDO/OFB deserve a contract --- others are all screw driver chetoos sellers hell bent on screwing govt & now military itself lol.
DRDO isn't a manufacturing agency, OFB is worse than Cheetos sellers.

Most of government agencies work as social justice centers and most certainly not for the job they were created for. And even if they have something little, that's because of only & only government who can provide immense money and resources whenever needs and almost zero on competency of employees and administrators.

Prototypes/designs of FICV made by L&T, TATA, MAHINDRA does not at all look screw driver to me.
Actually, in India, all the DPSUs basically do screw driver work whereas the private industry is way way more innovative.
The Abhay IFV looks like a derivative of BMP-2.

No it isn't
It is. It has serious QA issues while Indian private cos supply weapons to NATO and have started coming up with own designs.
Govt money AKA people money will go for public institutions
This money should go for those who give results. Only R&D and that even in well managed institutions & private firms.

Production needs to be privatized completely.
not for some pvt corporate looser with nothing to show for
No one is advocating for companies who have nothing to show for.
Pitching for incompetent government bodies is ongoing however.
Get it in your head sooner the better & for accountability the lesser is said about chetoos sellers the better.
If your head works, if the AD is manufactured by a private co, it's answerable to any anomaly occurred. Same isn't the case with Cheetos eater sarkari babus.

Trucks & cars have accidents have coz of driver (I won't dismiss safety issues altogether however).
Coaches built at regional PSU factories are involved in nearly all train derailations.

Again, hand over automotive industry to babus. Not only absolute collapse of exports, India's domestic manufacturing will die in no time.
Lazy Babu's work for India
They don't work. That's why they are called lazy.

We are talking about handing over contracts to Indian companies.

You are keen on depositing salaries in accounts of people who don't work. They need serious spanking.

Banking sector has learnt it, other PSUs will too.

Smart bombs, futuristic combat vehicle in pipeline: OFB head

NAGPUR: Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) is planning to introduce `smart bombs' and would soon roll out a "Futuristic Infantry Combat Vehicle" made for the Indian Army, a top official said here on Saturday.

The first-ever conference of employees of 41 ordnance factories in the country is being held at the National Academy for Defence Production at Ambajhari near here.

Director General Ordnance Factories and Chairman Ordnance Factories Board Hari Mohan told reporters that the conference would focus on "themes important for the transformation of ordnance factories into modern and business-oriented organisations".

Ordnance factories were also planning to manufacture `smart bombs' or guided artillery ammunition rounds of 81mm, 51mm, 120mm and 130mm caliber, he informed.

A "Futuristic Infantry Combat Vehicle" for the Indian Army was also in the works, he added.

"OFB started manufacturing Armoured Personal Carriers for the army from 1983-84. But now the OFB has developed its own Futuristic Infantry Combat (FIC) Vehicle for the army," he said.

"It is almost 85 percent ready. In coming months the FIC will be fully ready and exhibited in the next Defence exhibition," Mohan added.

Nagpur: Ordnance Factory Board plans to make guided bombs

NAGPUR: The Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) is planning to start making guided bombs in the coming days. So far, the ammunition it makes for the forces is of the conventional type. Now, OFB has drawn out plans to make guided bombs and is seeking outside technology and also getting it developed in-house. Guided ammunition can find its path right to the target on its own.

The director general of ordnance factory board (OFB), Hari Mohan, said this will be for the first time that the factories will be attempting to make guided ammunition. The factories make ammunition of calibres like 81mm, 51mm, 120mm, 130mm and even more for which a guided version may be out.
The ordnance factories have also begun supplying components to Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), a defence PSU that is into making of the missile.

The factory that has lately developed the 155-mm Dhanush howitzer is also close to making the first prototype of the futuristic infantry combat vehicle (FICV), the new generation armoured carrier for troops. Certain changes have been added to increase its effectiveness.

“With 85% of the work done, it is expected to be showcased during the defence expo planned in Lucknow in February,” said Mohan.

The chairman, along with the other members of the board, addressed workers’ representatives from all the 41 factories as a part of the brain storming session held at the National Academy of Defence Production in the city. “After a similar meeting of all the general managers heading the 41 factories was held, suggestions are now being invited from the grass roots level over the changes needed to be made on the organization’s functioning,” he said.

This has been the first of its kind of initiative in which specific suggestions from the workers’ levels are being invited, said Mohan. “The OFB is an over two hundred year old organization. The legacy brings certain advantages but drawbacks also. Times are changing and there is competition from the private sector also. It’s time for the OFB to change its functioning for which suggestions are being invited from all levels,” he said.

The government had last year proposed to corporatize the OFB, which led to a weeklong strike in the 41 factories. No further move has happened after that. However, post the development, OFB is also planning to revamp its working in light of the changed conditions in the defence manufacturing sector.
