MoD signs contract with BDL to supply 4,960 Anti-Tank Guided Missiles to Indian Army

Posted On: 19 MAR 2021 12:04PM by PIB Delhi

Acquisition Wing of Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed a contract with Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSU) Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for supply of 4,960 MILAN-2T Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGMs) to Indian Army at a cost of Rs 1,188 crore, in New Delhi on March 19, 2021. This will further boost the ‘Make in India’ initiative of the Government. It is a ‘Repeat Order’ of contract, which was signed with BDL on March 08, 2016.

The Milan-2T is a Tandem Warhead ATGM with the range of 1,850 metres, produced by BDL under license from MBDA Missile Systems, France. These missiles can be fired from ground as well as vehicle-based launchers and can be deployed in Anti-Tank Role for both offensive & defensive tasks. Induction of these missiles will further enhance the operational preparedness of the Armed Forces. Induction is planned to be completed in three years.

This project is a big opportunity for the defence industry to showcase its capability and will be a step in the direction of achieving the goal of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ in the defence sector.

Schematic of DRDO 50 KW COIL ( chemical oxygen iodine laser ) lab prototype which was under development few years back

View attachment 68190

The attractive point about COIL is that it allows scaling up of the output power at continuous mode at megawatt scale.

Boeing airborne YAL-1 used COIL

Continuous mode means the output power is steady and not pulsed.

We can never know...
We have 4 nuclear submarine in ocean and knows about launching ceremony of only 2, 3 even commissioned outside media eyes.
If rumours of its commissioning came out then it's either commissioned or almost ready for it... nothing to worry about.
Two are in active service . One will be commissioned in the coming months and the 4th is in sea trials . Barring INS Arihant, all boats have 8 launch tubes.

Ya'll Nibbiars HAL has proposed to upgrade the 12 additional Sukhoi order of IAF into Super Sukhoi with kits that HAL has developed along with its partners in DRDO. First, 2 aircraft will be technology demonstrator aircraft to integrate and test all the proposed upgrades to the aircraft.

SP-24 has spread her wings and has taken to the air.

SP-25 and SP-26 will have their first flights within a month.
Looking at this picture of LCA, it seems like pylons are slimmer when compared to previous copies. The overall build quality also seems better. is it my eyes playing a trick!

Infomative article -
3 programs under CATS .

1 . Cats hunter - conceived as an air-launched cruise missile that has the capability of deep penetration strikes which can be released by a fighter aircraft like LCA Tejas, Jaguar or Sukhoi-30 MKI

2. Cats warrior - can take off on its own from the ground and target enemy locations carrying heavy explosives. “It can go up to 700km and hit a target, or fly 350km, release attack drones and return to base

3. Alpha s - Warrior can also carry and release the Alpha-S, a swarm of up to 24 drones each carrying about 5-8kg of explosives, and can target multiple enemy locations simultaneously on being released. Alternatively, the Alpha-S can be released directly by a fighter aircraft using a glider that can carry the drone swarms deep into enemy territory, controlled by the pilot from the mothership . The drones in the swarm of Alpha-S are networked via electronic data links, and equipped with electro-optical and infrared sensors. This enables each drone to select separate targets .

CATS ll be completed in 2024-25
