DRDO list of 108 Defence system to be built in India
MUMBAI – Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) provided a list of 108 Defence systems and subsystems to the Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.
These 108 item are to be build by Indian industry with the assistance from Defence Research and Development Organization.
DRDO officials said that it will provide its support to industries in this development process.
Another step taken by the government towards building “Atmanirbhar Bharat/a self-reliant India.” The list also states the timeline corresponding to each Defence item.
On 10 August, the Ministry of Defence announced its ban on the imports of
101 defence items. Contracts of these item worth almost Rs 4 lakh crore will be given to the domestic industry within the next 6 to 7 years.
The present industry base for DRDO consists of 1800 MSMEs along with DPSUs, Ordnance Factories and large scale industries. Following is the list of 108 Defence systems and subsystems.
All the requirements of these systems by R&D establishments, Armed Forces, and other Security Agencies can be met through development contracts or production orders on suitable Indian industry allowing DRDO to focus on the design and development of critical and advanced technologies and systems.
DRDO has already taken major initiatives through various policies to involve the Indian industry as Development cum Production Partners (DcPP), offering its technology to industry at nominal cost and providing free access to its patents.
