I can't understand why DRDO can't strap HAL Shakti engines of Dhruv & LCH on Tapas? Why go with inefficient, low-power piston engines when a better alternative of gas-turbine engines is available?
Toh ab tapas bhi gayo
Sala yeh dukh kahe khatam nahi hota be
Sorry for off-post

We should be asking why ADA is incapable of making a simple drone that can reach 30,000 ft. when multiple countries have succeeded in making it, and why should armed forces induct an inferior product when our enemies are flying vastly superior drones (Wing Loong 2, Akinci, WZ-10) ?
What difference will it make if a UAV has 2000 feet less flying altitude ?? That too for a surveillance drone??

You know why IAF crying today for low squadrons ? Because they were had same attitude for Tejas.

Why on earth UN generals are so obsessed to copy-cat everything about foreign, even for parameters??

18 hours endurance is enough. 28k feets altitude also enough.

1. Piston engine power starts falling rapidly after 11,000 feet. At 30,000 feet power produced by an aero piston engine would be 1/4th of its power at sea level.

2. ADE could have simply used a turbo prop engine like Garrett, as used in Dornier 228

3. Or converted a dornuer 228 MPA into a Uav

4. but ADE has wasted 40 years in an endeavour, which they knew 10 years back at the drawing board itself that an altitude of 30,000 feet with piston engine will not be achieved.

5. Off course now they are discussing launching a turboprop powered UAV with a new design which will take another 10 years. Rather than simply equipping Tapas with turboprops.

Tapas already has adequate internal volume to carry the fuel necessary for turbo prop engines. Turboprop engines would be similar in weight to the present piston engines while producing five times more power

Ok I am getting bad feelings now bc
Actually, nothing to be disheartened of. The article originally says it is scheduled to be user-trialed this month, after which orders can be expected.

If not Army & Air Force, the Navy will at least provide them with some orders as consolation for their hard work.

But earlier there were reports that armed forces agreed to 28000 feet and 18 hour endurance and now this report is conflicting that one
Was that misinterpretation by few guys or they truly agreed to it
