this is navy's mmrca ...dont hope...just cope
Atleast AF have options now, this was 2nd p75I rfi, on the other hand navy has Spanish sub option which was found with design issues and what can you really expect from Koreans in terms of tech transfer, their sub is basically repurposed enlarged type214, also they are not offering VLS. I bet the amount of tech transfer required in rfi itself would cross level of indigenization by Koreans.
P75I seems dead in the water to me, no good option to choose from.

When going through our combat inventory I found Mig 29UPG ,Mirage 2000 and Jaguar alone contribute 245 combat planes.

Jaguar - 130 Airframe
1. Don't know how many of them in flying condition due to non availability of spares.
2. Pretty ageing aircraft but reliable.
3. Thrust issue with engines
4. Next major upgrade will be Darin 3 ( Heard only 40 aircrafts will be upgraded)

Mig 29UPG - 65 Airframe
1. Already upgraded to max condition.
2. May hold for one decade

Mirage 2000I - 50 Airframe
1. Already upgraded to max
2. May work for another Decade

Max payload (Combination of Weapons and Drop tanks)
Jaguar - 4500 kg , Mig - 4000 kg, Mirage - 6300 Kg

Now we are working on our Chunky boi - Tejas MK2. Have a modern AESA, MAWS, Targeting Pod.
1. Multirole
2.Payload - 6500 kg.

But IAF Chief cited him as too chunky and they will only commit 7 sqn.

Ideally MK2 should be our J10. Can be substantially ordered and we can simply replacing older planes like Jaguar , Mig and Mirage over the coming years.

Adv: 1. Inventory will be consist of single fighters.

But ordering seven sqn looks foolish and it will create a zoo with Tejas MK2, some MIg, Mirage and some Rafale.

But we can rant here while MOD and IAF are the ones to take decisions.

Drdo and other institutes can be enriched by olympiad initiative just like we have for sports olympics we can get it for science olympics. As most indian olympiad medallist pursue foreign universities and settle in foreign countries we can have more medalists who will choose india first.

Derby ER is far superior to Astra mk1. It's dual.pulse missile. Astra mk2 will be similar to it but that will come in numbers only after 2-3 years of testing then gradually production will increase. So Derby ER is required to deal with pl12-15 of China.
Derby ER and meteor are needed to counter PL-15 missiles. PL-12/SD-10 on the other hand is considered to be comparible to R-77 and AIM-120 in terms of range, actual reality is that SD-10 is having range comparible to an R-77 so it's kinematics is inferior to AIM-120C5 and Astra MK-1 is having more range than AIM120C5 so automatically Astra MK-1 becomes superior to the PL-12/SD-10.

So our fighters armed with Astra have BVR edge against PAF and PLAAF fighters armed with PL-12.

I have a question they must make something like a prototype for a plane before its first flight right to test radars and other stuff?
For testing of various sensors and avionics like radar, flight control System (FCS) etc, prototypes/flying test beds are used. Also ground testing of these equipment is done too.

T
SpyDer SR deployed somewhere in Eastern Ladakh .

View attachment 164432

IAF loads it's Spyder TEL with 3 Derby and 1 Python-V instead of the usual 2+2 configuration.
Over the next few years we will see hordes of Astra Mk1, and possibly Mk2 with AESA seekers presented in such configuration. Can be a very good export as a combined package with the LCA Mk2.
