Can mk2 fly with nuclear missiles?

Unless we develop something similar to ASMP-A, we will pretty much be stuck with free fall nuclear bombs

Derby ER is far superior to Astra mk1. It's dual.pulse missile. Astra mk2 will be similar to it but that will come in numbers only after 2-3 years of testing then gradually production will increase. So Derby ER is required to deal with pl12-15 of China.

I doubt we have even procured I-Derby ER, the Derby BVRAAM used on the test Su30 are from the lot of 750 Derby missiles procured alongside the Spyder SAM batteries, unless we opted for Derby-ER during that purchase, these are most likely the standard Derby BVR missiles.

Our doctrine focuses on BM like Agni and K-series or CM like Nirbhay/ITCR for nuclear weapon delivery.
These missiles are way too heavy for Tejas Mk. 2

Nirbhay ALCM weighs only 1400-1500 kgs so, it wont be heavy for Tejas mk2.

Marine engines are some areas where we can invest since currently there is no big alternative to them. Only MTU is a big player here. Also developing a Marine engine will clear major roadblock in conventional Submarine building since MTU is main supplier to German subs like Type 209 etc. Also Korean navy subs are licensed produced German subs and their new subs may use the same MTU engine

Why would we need Derby I ER when we have the 80-110 km Astra mk1 and mk2 and mk3 are waiting on the wings to be inducted within the next few years?

The original Derby has a 55 km range while the I ER has a 100+ km range .

Derby weighs 118 kg against 150 kg of Astra.

So you have the option of mounting Derby on those hardpoints where you can't mount Astra. This gives you an immense capacity boost of going with number of BVRAAMs against your opponents.
