The problem is we want a bigger submarine with better endurance, stealth features and firepower as in addition of VLS and a proven aip.
With these lots of addition, you would basically need a newly designed submarine.
If you hear Navy, they are more than willing to wait for these bigger subs rather than ordering more scorpenes and shoring up the depleting sub numbers.
Imo, IN should atleast try to make a submarine tech demonstrator based on scorepene learning to atleast prove sub technologies, would greatly boost confidence to further pursue indigenous submarines, and will help in all ssk, SSN and ssbn programmes.

Dr. V.K Saraswat: we have able to make hypersonic missile with high heat material & we tested it for Mach 6-8. Today we could go up to 10-12 Mach. For going up to Mach 30, we need to invest more in R&D and tracking. Aways please to hear father of BMD & hypersonic in India.

How many planes will it be in total?

In the Indian Airforce, each fighter jet Squadron consists of 18 aircrafts. So 6 Squadrons would be 18 x 6 = 108 Aircrafts. Some sources say that each squadron in IAF consists of 16 jets whereas some say it's between 16-18. Whatever the number maybe, in total, the number of planes in 6 Squadrons would be more than 90+.

Why would we need Derby I ER when we have the 80-110 km Astra mk1 and mk2 and mk3 are waiting on the wings to be inducted within the next few years?

The original Derby has a 55 km range while the I ER has a 100+ km range .

Derby ER is far superior to Astra mk1. It's dual.pulse missile. Astra mk2 will be similar to it but that will come in numbers only after 2-3 years of testing then gradually production will increase. So Derby ER is required to deal with pl12-15 of China.

Mk2 will be capable of carrying brahmos NG. Will brahmos nG will be nuke ready. Most probably.

In any case we shall see a future air launched nuke missile on the line of asmp -a of France which weights just 860 kg.

While brahmos ng is supposed to wait 1300 kg.
