250km range 420mm diameter Pranash SRBM will debut soon. The same Pranash will be used as booster for AD-1 ABM which is too gonna be tested next year. Both missiles will feature 6 cannister TEL.

What if we say AD 1 booster is going to be used in pranash but isn't prahar missile was also derived from AAD which was the main reason behind its non induction.

Can we use this missile as Long Range Anti-Air missile apart from the role of endo-atmospheric interceptor in the P-18 destroyers??

I mean VL-SRSAM for Point defence, Barak-8 for Medium range Air Defence, AD-1 for both Long Range Air Defence and Endo Atmospheric Ballistic missile defence & AD-2 for Exo-Atmospheric Ballistic missile defence.

On Airframe Basis roughly..
Prahaar = AAD
Prahaar ER = AAD with added canards

Non-induction could be of varied reasons. One possible reason being the radical AD-1 itself that required a new generation booster. Although the new AAD with canards can be produced on limited numbers.

DRDO & Military knew from day one that even if AAD (15 year old concept) gets inducted 10 years back, it would cost lots of money + become outdated (on Eastern Front) by next full front war predicted to happen by this decade. Above that, DRDO always went for modular design for cost savings, so Pranash happened, that could also power up AD-1. And prolly incorporates the same high energetic composite propellant used at Pralay and SMART.

AAD is a single stage solid fuel ABM, that can reach 50km altitude, but cannot sustain there for extended time. Chinese Long Range Quasi Ballistic Missiles cruising at 50-80km altitude brought the need for a dual stage endo-atmospheric ABM, featuring an agile 2nd stage, that can cruise for extended period at 30-80 km altitude without losing its velocity.

Better to leave it for XR-SAM that's more optimized for targets below 25km altitude.

Don't think they are investing more on it. India's ATGM variants along with its arsenal is enough for now
MPATGM with just a range of 2.5 km is not enough we need at least 5km range ATGM with LOAL. Since most of the ATGM projects have completed Development I don't think project team will Sit idle. Why don't we convert SANT into Ground launched NLOS ATGM.

Ya'll Nibbiars

The FICV

can't fire a DEW.

Can't carry 11 troops.

Can't defend itself.

Can't take a city on it's own.

Can't be amphibious.

Can't climb a mountain.

Can't have enough fire power as a Tank.

And with addition of a APS and modular extre armkur will be over weight.

Rejected.

MOD's.

That's no reason to leave such a vulnerability. It's like building a bunker with part of a roof missing.
Ya'll Nibbiars first understanding why a space is left there.

Ya'll Nibbiars

Ya'll Nibbiars In simple word the MK1A is a world beater just that it lacks a APS and some other things which can be added. But our Firangi Lobby is too strong to achieve this.
Arjun’s offensive power is ridiculously weak. It can’t even pierce any modern MBT, let alone take them out in a single hit.

Chinese Type 99 which we are currently facing in Ladakh, and will probably face in western battlefield in future as well , can just ignore Arjun altogether and move on, as it don’t even pose a threat to it.

The best FSAPDS/APFSDS (FSAPDS MK2) the T90S Bhishma can fire has a penetration of 500mm RHA at 60* at 2km and Arjun’s 120MM FSAPDS MK2 has a penetration of 500mm RHA at 63* at 2km, where both have near equivalent firepower for their most useful type of ammunition carried. HESH and HEAT can’t be effectively compared so I’m not going to that. Also please provide your source for the penetration specs of Arjun’s CLGM/SAMHO AFAIK it hasn’t been released hence I’m not sure how your comparing it to other Tank fired ATGMs.
