The United States and its "Group of Four" partners actually use India as a weapon, as a geopolitical tool to counter the so-called "Chinese vaccine diplomacy," but this has cost the Indian people a heavy price. "America first" is still a red line. In fact, the support provided by the United States is only a verbal statement to ease India's growing anti-American sentiment. The motivation is more opportunism than goodwill. Under the current circumstances, the situation in India has actually become a burden to the "Group of Four", all of which are now accumulated in an epic disaster, and the Indian people themselves are the biggest losers.

Indian Army To Buy 307 ATAGS Howitzers For Deployment Along China, Pakistan Border
The defence ministry has accepted the Indian Army's proposal to buy 307 Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems (ATAGS) for deployment along India's borders with China and Pakistan, according to reports.

The Ministry of Defence has accepted a proposal from the Indian Army to buy 307 Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems (ATAGS) for deployment along the borders with China and Pakistan, marking a significant step towards 'Make-in-India' in the defence sector, news agency ANI reported on Wednesday.

The Indian Army has submitted a proposal worth more than USD 1 billion, which is currently being discussed. According to the report, it is anticipated to be cleared soon and given to the Cabinet Committee on Security for approval.

This would be the first order for the indigenous howitzer, which can strike targets at distances of up to 50 kilometres and is considered to be the best gun in its class, as per the report.

The forces have been testing the gun at various elevations and terrains. "They have been upgraded based on user suggestions," the report said.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has shared raw howitzer technology and know-how with two private firms, Tata Advanced Systems and Bharat Forge group, and they will offer the system to the troops, which would include around 320 high mobility vehicles.

Between April 26 and May 2, the 155mm/52 calibre Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) trials were completed at the Pokhran Field Firing Range (PFFR).

The ATAGS is an indigenous towed artillery gun system project undertaken in mission mode by the DRDO as part of the Indian Army's artillery modernization programme, according to the statement.

In addition to other DRDO facilities, the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) in Pune is the DRDO's nodal laboratory for the design and development of ATAGS.

The development was carried out in collaboration with two industry partners, Tata Advanced Systems Ltd and Bharat Forge Ltd, as well as active engagement from other industries.

Both guns' reliability has been proven by firing many rounds in various zones, including burst, intense, and sustained modes. ANI reported that the DRDO recently stated that high precision and consistency in range and line with maximum range had been obtained.

Not sure if it’s in addition to the 150 approved before or the 307 subsumes the previous 150 approval for purchase.

Anyway while 17 regiments is a good purchase than previous 7, they wanted to buy 1000+ Athos without severe trials Atags have been subjected to. According to army own artillery requirements we need 55 regiments of towed artilleries. If we need to create an mic capable of creating jobs we need to buy in thousands first.

Call me cynical but this is the IA we are talking about

for any additional orders they’ll have to seek fresh approvals from DAC, this could just be another stall tactic to see if they can force about the ATHOS deal under an ‘emergency’ requirement

This drip drip procurement method also ensures the ATAGS remains uncompetitive with any contemporary as they won’t be able to scale up, further refine and bring about manufacturing efficiencies. For 1000 you’ll easily be expecting >120/year, for 150+157, maybe 40/year and that’ll be split between Kaylani and TASL too.

there also seems to be this counter-narrative emerging against ATAGS (based on nonsense)

This is definitely a program in jeopardy despite it delivering everything asked of it

Initially they had 23 litres I think. They increased chamber size for range rise demand from Army. Athos don’t have this range. Anyway let’s hope for better.
Su30 Mki is an prime example of building 270 ac but price still costlier than in Russia due to piecemeal ordering. The Armed forces and our defence bureaucrats haven’t learned their lessons yet

Meanwhile these guns are delivered, Army should give new specification such as weight reduction by 2 tons and anything else need to be incorporated into next batch. We should make the gun best in class. It will definitely will have big market. Armenia may buy ATAGS after 155X39 caliber gun.

Now that's what the aim should be.

Fuck dac gave approval now
Didnt it give for 115 units earlier
Ab toh 2-3 sal lagenege ccs tak jane keliye
But Ani said that it would get approval from ccs right
DAC is the new CCS by the media spin now. Of course AONs are basically meaningless and plenty have had AONs but never materialise as a order over the years. CCS approval is at least 2-3 years away if at all

again I wonder what is really going on here? Is 307 in addition to the 150 LSP cleared by DAC previously? Does this new figure supersede the earlier one basically starting from scratch again as far as quotes are concerned? Just more games for the services and babus to play whilst the situation on the ground remains totally unchanged. ATAGS is at least 3-5 years away from ever making its way to an operational Unit Purely thanks to these gymnastics

Is it ? And I was hoping / thinking that CCS approval would be obtained soon and contract signed by March 31, 2023 to utilise the budget funds before the FY expiry.
