Sir ATAGS has a chamber volume of 27 liters, this was revealed by Baba Kalyani himself.
The more volume is because It has been designed to fire Nuclear 155mm shells tested in Pokhran in 1998 in addition to other conventional artillery shells of the same caliber.
155mm Nuclear Shell??

You never hear any actual concerns being raised by the army about any valid issue, like Arjun's armour design flaws & low APFSDS penetration... because those are solvable problems.
Just the weight, as that can't be helped... And it's the same for ATAGS. They want 6-rounds, longer range & when weight is increased due to it they use that.

It's DRDOs fault really to not have understood the game by now... should have started keeping extra funds for kickbacks.
If they buy the orders, the profit margin would be lower, but a PSU shouldn't prioritise profit margin...
Hi guys

Baba Kalyani has already said that next ATAGS will be lighter in the weight. so light gun is already in making. Just wait and let Tata and Kalyani make another prototype. The issue will be resolved.

We had ASAT capabilities from 2010 but it's only now that it was tested and declared that to by gung-ho Modi government. If CONgreess had been in power it still wouldn't have been disclosed. Same modus operandi for many defence related products.
Recently, I have come across by a defence personnel that we used air borne KALI direct energy weapon to create avalanche to press a few porks across border. That was news to me....
Ohh dear fanboy that news* is floating around for long. Many WhatsApp messages have been forwarded many a times on that.

Now your point ?

You are absolutely 100% wrong.
ASAT project was sanctioned only in 2016.

There is no airborne KALI weapon.

You are engaging in wild speculation.

Actually we did had capability but the project wasn't sanctioned It is mentioned by Previous ISRO chief if I remember correctly.

The other part he learned from WhatsApp factory . Though I wonder on what scale we have the capability to create natural disaster like situation in Porkistan .May be we can use dams to flood them during monsoon or dry them out when they need water.

We need to break their internal economy that feed these people. War should be the last option for now.

Boss avalanche can be triggered by an explosive charge.

Yes microwaves can be used as well as water absorbs microwaves. But explosive is more efficient.

Creating a mobile particle accelerator with enough mass and energy in the beam is no small challenge.

Me thinks Dhanush will stay as is. ATHOS 400 units is cleared for purchase. ATAGS order is in pipeline for a significant quantity. Next 3 years should see a min 500 towed units getting inducted. Exciting times for artillery.

it does not matter you have such things in theory or on paper what matters is actual validation of such things like ASAT validation and to do that one needs to have ba--s of steel and BJP had that body part made of steel .I am no BJP fan

#BREAKING Deployment of indigenous 155mm Dhanush Towed Artillery Gun System underway on Pak China Border

.

As part of the Indian Army’s operational readiness, the indigenous 155mm Dhanush Towed Gun System is under induction. The gun system is going to qualitatively improve the firepower of Indian artillery and is also expected to make way for the private sector gun manufacturing companies. Indian Army has placed an order for a total of 114 `Dhanush’ with the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB).

During the ongoing Army Commanders Conference, the top commanders discussed various options for the employment of this gun, sources confirmed to Financial Express Online.

The OFB will hand over 18 155mm x 45 calibre artillery guns to the army’s Central Ordnance Depot in Jabalpur and before the year ends these indigenous guns will be deployed along the Pakistan and China frontiers. These are being under production at the Jabalpur-based Gun Carriage Factory (GCF), at a cost of Rs 14.50 crore.

The indigenous gun — towed and self-propelled mode has undergone extensive trials in extreme weather conditions as well as difficult terrains across the country including Sikkim, Leh, Odisha and Jhansi.

The guns will come with almost 85 per cent indigenous material has a range of 38 km and in the army, it is classified as ‘medium artillery’. There has been active participation of both private and public sector companies like SAIL, BEL working with the OFB on this project. Also, besides the Indian Army, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), as well as DGQA, have been actively involved in this project. The Gun Carriage Factory had received the order for Dhanush in 2011, and the first prototype was made in 2014.

More about Dhanush ::

- The indigenous gun comes with inertial navigation-based sighting system.

- It has an advanced day and night direct firing system.

- On-board ballistic computation.

- Mechanically it has been upgraded to fire NATO standard 155 mm ammunition.

- It comes with a self-propulsion unit and this for the gun to be self-deployed in mountainous terrains.

- Bi-modular charge system (BMCS) which help in increasing the range.

- The gun has been upgraded electronically which helps in enhancing firing accuracies.

- It is also compatible with other kinds of ammunition.

The induction of this type of gun is part of the Indian Army’s ‘mediumisation’ of the artillery and under this will replace ‘field guns’ of a calibre such as 105 mm and 120 mm.

I think it is meant to replace the 130 mm Soviet guns & 105mm light field guns ,AFAIK there is 120mm gun but mortars and there is no plan to replace them

Indian Army to have first Dhanush regiment by March 2020
I hope numbers are increased to the speculated 414 or are we waiting for ATAGS to come through, there is also a 52 calibre version of dhanush built as a prototype, these guns will give us numerical & qualitative edge in LoC , hopefully govt does this on priority

The current roadblock is the limited production capacity of GCF Jabalpur. Its a rather ridiculous chicken and egg game between OFB who wants large block order for investment in production ramp up and on other hand Army HQ which wants OFB to increase production rate and guarantee delivery within certain time frames BEFORE placing block orders. There are also the lingering concerns with quality but OFB has done good thing by bringing in pvt players like Bharat Forge to make critical components like barrels

Let the 1st regiment go into action and Army will come around

Why we are limiting ourselves with 39/45 caliber 155 mm guns... why not develop something like 155 mm 52 caliber like NATO??? Do we have any gun in this class???
