The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine summed up the results of the measures taken in 2017 to increase survivability and explosive fire safety of arsenals, bases and warehouses. In the event, under the leadership of the First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel-General Igor Kolesnik, the heads of the relevant structural divisions of the General Staff and the military command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, commanders of the specialized military units took part.
"Ensuring reliable protection and defense of arsenals, bases and warehouses, increasing their security is and remains one of the main tasks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," said Colonel-General Igor Kolesnik. - Complex solution of this problem requires attracting and rational use of all available forces and means.
During 2017, as noted by the meeting participants, a significant amount of work was carried out at the bases, warehouses and arsenals to increase the fire and explosion safety, strengthening the protection and defense of these facilities. In particular, two new protected storage facilities were constructed and 89 restored, more than 40 kilometers of perimeter fencing were reconstructed and equipped with modern engineering security equipment, over 20,000 units of ammunition containers were manufactured, anti-aircraft systems were installed, surveillance and warning systems were improved, special equipment was purchased and other.
Increase explosion and fire safety of warehouses was also possible due to the dispersal of tens of thousands of tons of missiles and ammunition, moving them to storage from temporary open areas to protected storage.
"During these large-scale and labor-consuming works, the maximum human factor should be eliminated as much as possible through the wide use of means of mechanization, providing them with bases and arsenals," noted the First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In order to strengthen the protection and defense of arsenals, bases and warehouses, changes have been made in the organizational and staff structures of security units, staffing them with personnel, including conscription officers and military servicemen in urgent military service and under contract.
"The rational use of budgetary allocations for the survivability program of arsenals, bases and warehouses, the priority allocation of funds for urgent measures to strengthen protection and defense, the effective use of available material resources are the main tasks of commanders and heads of all levels at the present time," said Colonel-General Igor Kolesnik . - At the same time, the issues of organization of the service, training and training of personnel, comprehensive support and control over the implementation of planned activities are no less important and should be addressed in a comprehensive manner.
