nimo, the impact of media outrage at crashes on IAF accident rate is well known by all informed members. there's no need to broadcast your lack of information on the subject by ill advised flames. fighters of the mig-21 generation have had a very high accident rate whichever air force they were flown by. its contemporary, the F-104 starfighter was called the widowmaker.
only air forces like PAF and PLAAF operated these types without ever having any significant number of crashes, that can be attributed to media suppression of crashes or low flying hours by pilots or both.

only once did the PAF come out with its crash figures and it emerged that even at its worst levels in recent years, i.e late 90's, IAF still had an attrition rate half to 1/3 that of PAF. read it if you are interested.
BHARAT RAKSHAK MONITOR Volume 2(4)

also, PLAAF did have very low annual flying hours per pilot as recently as the 90's. the flying hours/year for each fighter pilot in late 90's was approximately as follows :
USAF 220-240 hours
western air forces : 200 hours
IAF : 180 hours (it has since gone up to 220-230 hours in the 2000's)
PAF 150 hours
PLAAF 110-120 hours

here is a summary of estimates of PLAAF flying hours. some are as low as 40 hours per year !

I think the flying hours has increased significantly in this decade. Especially for fist units. Still not on par with NATO standard, of course.

China does not report air crashes.

It is to show that China is free from accidents or aircraft technical malfunction - the ideal manufacturer of hi tech aircraft and fantastic pilots!!!!!

Much has been made by the Chinese posters about IAF crashes.

Well, this crash being in total view of an international audience could not be covered up.

From the video, it appears pilot error or even a stall.

China navy to carry out Pacific exercises

China navy to carry out Pacific exercises

China has said it will conduct "routine" naval exercises in the Pacific Ocean, in the week after a major diplomatic campaign by US President Barack Obama to assert the United States as a Pacific power.

The defence ministry said the exercises, to be held later this month, did not target any particular country, but the announcement comes against a background of growing tensions over maritime disputes in the Asia-Pacific region.

Obama, who has dubbed himself America's first Pacific president, said last week the US would deploy up to 2,500 Marines to Australia and tighten air force cooperation, a move seen as a response to China's growing regional might.

China's freedom of navigation "shall not be subject to any form of hindrance", the defence ministry said in a brief statement late Wednesday announcing the naval exercises in the western Pacific.

"This is a routine drill arranged under an annual plan, does not target any particular country or target, and complies with relevant international laws and international practice," it added.

Obama flew home Saturday after a seven-day tour of Pacific nations during which he took in a trio of summits and announced greater military involvement in the region.

"Here is what this region must know. As we end today's wars, I have directed my national security team to make our presence and missions in the Asia-Pacific a top priority," the US president announced during a visit to Australia.

Washington's new diplomatic campaign to assert itself as a Pacific power has alarmed China, which sees initiatives like stationing Marines in Australia as intruding into its sphere of influence.

China's Premier Wen Jiabao has warned against interference by "external forces" in regional territorial disputes including in the South China Sea, a strategic and resource-rich area where several nations have overlapping claims.

China claims all of the maritime area, as does Taiwan, while four Southeast Asian countries declare ownership of parts of it, with Vietnam and the Philippines accusing Chinese forces of increasing aggression there.

The competing claims have led to periodic outbreaks of tension between China and its neighbours in recent years, including with the Philippines and Vietnam in recent months, and with Japan in late 2010.

China's People's Liberation Army, the largest armed force in the world, is primarily a land force, but its navy is playing an increasingly important role as Beijing grows more assertive about its territorial claims.

Earlier this year, the Pentagon warned that Beijing was increasingly focused on its naval power and had invested in high-tech weaponry that would extend its reach in the Pacific and beyond.

Recent trials of China's first aircraft carrier underlined the scale of Beijing's naval ambitions, sparking jitters in the United States and Japan.

China, which publicly announced around 50 separate naval exercises in the seas off its coast over the past two years -- usually after the event -- says its military is only focused on defending the country's territory.

Arthur Ding, a Taiwan-based expert on the PLA, said China's navy conducted regular drills in the western Pacific, but that the timing of the latest announcement could be significant.

"We need to watch what kind of military exercise this fleet is executing. If it is a simple tactical drill, it can be said that this exercise aims to protest President Obama's recent statement, because it takes time to prepare a real exercise," he told AFP.

Asia-Pacific leaders held talks on the disputed territories at a summit Saturday, in a major diplomatic coup for the US, which had pushed for the topic to be raised, despite objections from Beijing.

China's official comments on Obama's trip were muted, but state news agency Xinhua said Asian suspicions would be raised by the plan to base troops in Australia and by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's declaration that the 21st century will be "America's Pacific century".

"If the US sticks to its Cold War mentality and continues to engage with Asian nations in a self-assertive way, it is doomed to incur repulsion in the region," the agency said.

"The hard fact is that the Pacific Ocean belongs to all countries sharing its shores, not just the United States."

Obama has put America in worst defecit in 1 year then Bush did in 2 terms.

That deficit saved America. If Bush didn't waste Trillions in a strategically stupid Iraq invasion the deficit wouldn't be that bad after Republican patrons in the wall street almost brought the whole World back to 1929.

Ask the US Republicans what did they do to the surplus they inherited from the previous Democratic President Clinton? The second Pres. Bush made that surplus disappear the last time I checked...

Sorry, I dont have the exact number. It probably varies from units to units. The average hours are hard to come by. The old ones probably get less while the new Flankers get more. 4 years ago, some J7 pilots got around 150 hours a year. And that was for B-units. For some elite squadrons around 180 hours a year.
Taiwan gives it pilots 180 hours a year, and may increase that. This is because China is increasing flight hours. Follow their trends, and you will get a basic idea.

There is one topic in CDF. I am unable to get the source of that article though.

The problem is that after generations of controlling every aspect of their society and country, the CCP has gotten into an unfortunate habit of seeing everything suited to their needs. This includes territories, oil blocks, other nation's interests and even whole nations at times. And since this has come as a new surprise to some countries around, they refuse to accept this hegemony. This has angered the Red Dragon that why no one is giving them as much damn as USA is given despite holding numerous world records for this and that in economic development.

To undo this humiliation, the Reds have decided to take the course of hard ball game; pressuring the countries using military means; either it is our talk or no talk. That failed as well when ASEAN invited Russia, USA and us into the meet much to Chinese irritation AND when a small and much economically weaker nation like Philippines dismantled Chinese exploration installations in the SCS.

This has pissed Beijing badly as it is used to seeing cringing and slaving from Pakistan and North Korea--- two of its only client states who always nod yes to it (Burma was at one stage too but now it is willing to come out of Chinese stranglehold, which is a positive sign).

Hence you see such silly moves one by one by the CCP. Expect more egg-faced situations for the CCP foreign policy now onwards.
