The biggest deficiency of Arjun in our user context is its weight.
Not really, arjun was made with western tanks in mind.
Hence its weight Is large .
Army can't decide whether they wanted soviet style tactics or western tactics , you cannot have 4000 arjun like tanks unless you are america

The fist point sounds wrong but,
Army is not going to order more Arjun and did they add a 1500 engine. Isn't it true that they wanted to!?
IA wanted a 1500 hp engine & even want it now. But this 1500 hp engine was suggested by DRDO during design phase. Even with current 1400 hp engine, Arjun has got more power per ton compared to Bhisma.
So engine power is not a problem per se, but its origin & maintenance is problem as of now.

Do you know, back in 70's, after the Bangladesh war, IA has put forward the proposal of a MBT of 50 ton class. To cater to this need, CVRDE was established and Arjun came in existence.

Now if you think that IA was short-sighted at that time, they were operating a 40 ton class Vijayanta tank. So they have ofcourse kept in mind the weight increment which would come with a futuristic tank.

Few points:

1> Arjun Mk2 will feature a completely redesigned turret, hardkill APS, upgraded sensors and sights, BMS, and drone-tank linking as standard fitment. No idea about the gun though.
2> Arjun is primarily geared towards fighting in Sindh and south Punjab because terrain favours its weight. Not sure about the rest of Punjab with its soft soggy soil and dense network of nullahs and bandhs.
3> A huge section of T-90s need to be upgraded to the Prooryv-3 standard, with added local tech wherever possible.
4> Arjuns and upgraded T90s will form the offensive end of our armour. The T72s and older T90s (with limited upgrades) can be in a more defensive role for holding elements.

As of now armoured corps is in deep shit. Infantry we can see modernisation happening fast and is highly visible. Artillery modernisation is just about to be unleashed. Aviation core modernisation is in progress with LUH and LCH waiting in the wings. Dhruv and Rudra are coming in large numbers. Its just that armoured corps and mechanized infantry are not moving forward at all. Strong kick has to come from political leadership that this needs to change immediately.

So, Arjun MK2 is separate from NGMBT or are they linked..?
