^^^ well does it mean we could see another mark 2 protoype
it's really confusing, because last year they reported the 1st prototype was doing trials.

Looks like this.

I'm guessing they modified the first one.

Look at the left.. Arjun MBT Mark 2 Prototype 1..
We all know that they have for some good reason kept the left side without ERA. Here is the computer generated image

what i get from the news report is that they will added soft kill and trophy system to the tank. On the left side green structure (guess) is that it is BFSR, as it will give capability to arjun tank which is not their in any other tank. Arjun can easily track object at 10 km range. Since their was news reports of Anti Helicopter round, this is lethal addition to Arjun. With BMS it can digitally communicate with other tanks in network centric warfare.

What kind of armour geometry is better for Arjun Mark II?

Do not assume they are necessarily Kaktus or Kontakt-5. The images are indeed of those, but the question here is that of geometry.

one at the bottom provide greater protection to Arjun tank then what is given by T90S.

I really wonder reading the Force article on FMBT as to why we are aiming for 120 mm Gun with FMBT and not 125 mm Gun to have common ammo logistics with T-72 and T-90.

The article says T-72 will be upgraded and the numbers will be around 1800-2000 while T-90 too will be around 1700.

FMBT will replace T-72 from 2022-2025 onwards , that means a significant percentage of tank in the next 3 decades will be T series even if FMBT goes in full production.

Wouldnt it be wiser to move to 125 mm smooth bore with autoloader and develop ammo that is common to all 3 Tanks rather then maintain seperate logistics for FMBT and another one for T series like we now see with Arjun.

It does not makes sense to me as to why Army would complicate its logistics.

120mm NATO ammo can be a good reason..

Not convinced how ?

We would assume that NATO will actually give us their best ammo highly unlikely unless we join NATO.

We assume that DRDO or Russians wont come up with a decent ammo highly unlikely.

So that leaves the logistics issue why on earth would you not have inter-operability between all tanks for ammo , you end up with lot of duplication without any tactical advantage.

Its like saying we should go for 152 mm rounds for future howitzer , would that make sense clearly no since we have standardised on 155 mm ammo.

I would be dissapointed if we do not take logistics interoperability for FMBT right from design stage and end up with unique systems doesnt help much.

BTW what about ammo storage in Arjun Mk2.

Does it have similar arrangement like Mk1 where part ammo is in bustle with blow out panels and part inside the turret in storage containers or did they changed it for Mk2 ?

One need not to be a NATO or close to that criteria to have finest 120mm ammo..

And about Russian the best they can give is 3BM-42 now and for better one have to get new tanks altogether..

---------------------------------------------------

One Piece Ammo is safer and easier to load, Russian auto-loader use two pieces ammo loading that takes time now imagine same system modified to carry out single piece ammo, It will be faster rate of fire..

FMBT also coming with auto-loader with 120mm smooth-bore gun..

---------------------------------------------------

I dont think there is a issue of logistic even now when we are making three different tank ammo, I am sure this wont be a problem in future either..

Keeping this in mind, the Arjun Mk-2's improved performance seems to have put the Army in a spot. What does one do with a tank that is fast, can shoot accurately on the move and is relatively well protected but is too heavy to be deployed in the deserts near the Pakistan border as a replacement for the T-72 or T-90? Paradoxically, while the tank itself has demonstrated high speed and mobility, its weight precludes it from being able to operate anywhere the army wants it to. The Arjun Mk-2 will weigh around 67 tonnes and this fatally limits the tank's operational effectiveness for the Indian Army.

The tank is too heavy to be deployed across the border with Pakistan. It is unable to effectively traverse terrain filled with natural and/or artificial obstacles. Or areas criss-crossed with rivers and canals. That rules out most places in Rajasthan, Punjab .

Why these people are spreading disinformation about tank`s ability..

Why this bolded comment is coming, when Arjun has gone through successful cross country rigorous testing for thousand kilometers? This is a planned propaganda against Arjun. I am afraid Arjun will ever be inducted in significant numbers. Russians have skimmed lot of dollars out of T-90 deal that too w/o full TOT.

This is high time the russian arms lobby & IA nexus to be broken and IA must be forced to accept Arjun-II.

Now we have the experience , technology in tank designing & manufacturing and we can not afford to loose it by buying tanks from Russians. We can further improve Arjun-II if IA demand so but IA must have only option that is ARJUN-II.
