The problem with Laser Guided Weapon is that you need a very powerful beam to reflect energy from the target , any tank having a Laser Warning System will detect it and would respond with counter measure like multi spectral smoke screen and if its better than that an APS.

With beam rider the missile follows the beam from the source and not the target , so it needs 100 times less energy compared to conventional laser becuase its directly looking at the source , in the latest kornet they have reduced the source beam to 250 times less powerful then Laser Guidance based on reflected energy , so the chances of triggering a Laser Warning is low , one of the complains of Israel about Kornet i read is its difficut to jam and does not trigger the laser warning.

Hence the beam rider is difficult to jam becuase you cant jam the missile seeker and you can play tricks like beam at some other source and at the last moment you move it to the target becuase the missile is following the beam and will move along

The disadvantage of beam rider is you have to depend on that one source which is beaming it but in case of Laser Guided Missile like lahat you can lase the target from many source so in that sense Lahat has more flexible approach but has its down side too.

The most flexible will be M1111 MRM-CE, it can be directly guided by lasers (or it is beam rider, nobody precized this, or it is both, laser guided and beam rider) or it can use it's own passive autonomous guiding system.. and that range! 12,000m!

Passive guidance of which type ?

how does it discriminate say between a tank thats hit and tank that working fine and needs to be hit with autonomous guidance ?

With manual guidance like Laser or Laser Beam rider the operator makes that decision.

CLGM is JV product of DRDO and Israeli company, i think it has heavy warhead, made as per Indian requirement.

this will be tested in Dec or Jan this year from arjun. What is Semi active laser homing ??

Semi-Active Laser Homing

Some laser guided systems utilise beam riding guidance, but most operate more similarly to semi-active radar homing (SARH). This technique is sometimes called SALH, for Semi-Active Laser Homing. With this technique, a laser is kept pointed at the target and the laser radiation bounces off the target and is scattered in all directions (this is known as "painting the target", or "laser painting"). The missile, bomb, etc. is launched or dropped somewhere near the target. When it is close enough for some of the reflected laser energy from the target to reach it, a laser seeker detects which direction this energy is coming from and adjusts the projectile trajectory towards the source. While the projectile is in the general area and the laser is kept aimed at the target, the projectile should be guided accurately to the target.

Dunno, no details were show to public, probably some sort of passive sensor.

With manual guidance like Laser or Laser Beam rider the operator makes that decision.
Maybe it could be guided via data link and FBCB2/BFT system, as far as I know a TC in M1A2SEP for example can have a direct connection with UAV and see image from UAV on his display. So there are several different possiblitis.

Defence Research and Development Organisation eyes robotic soldier, mule

11 DEC, 2011

CHENNAI: India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is in the process of building robotic soldiers and mules as a part of its unmanned fighting systems of the future, said an official Sunday.

"We are working on building soldier robots that can work like a human soldier. Such a robot needs data base, artificial intelligence to carrying out its activities and the DRDO is planning to build such a robot," V.K. Saraswat, scientific advisor to defence minister and director general, DRDO, told reporters here.

After inaugurating new facilities inside the Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE) campus, he said the DRDO was also planning to design a robotic mule that could replace a real one used by soldiers in mountainous terrain.

The DRDO has already developed Daksh, a remote-controlled robotic vehicle, for detecting and destroying dangerous objects like bombs and has been approved by the Indian Army for induction.

The army will start trials of DRDO's main battle tank Arjun Mark II from next October, said P. Sivakumar, director, CVRDE.

He said the army had ordered 124 units of the upgraded Arjun tanks.

According to him, the CVRDE would be completing the supply of Mark I version of Arjun tanks by March 2012. "We have supplied 110 units out of the total 124 units that were ordered," he said.

The Indian tanks were far cheaper, costing around Rs.21 crore each, as compared to Rs.56 crore each of American battle tanks of a similar nature.

"If there are more orders then the cost would come down further," added Saraswat.

According to Sivakumar, the CVRDE was planning to source the battle tank engines and transmission systems from BEML Ltd. Presently, the engines and transmissions were imported.

Queried about the commercialisation of the technologies developed by the DRDO, Saraswat said the annual revenue was currently around Rs.30 crore and it was growing.

He earlier inaugurated the new technology centre, jointly set up by the CVRDE and BEML, a suspension testing facility for Arjun tank and combat veronics technology centre.

The centre will address the design and development of defence products and aggregates including research and development products.

According V.R.S. Natarajan, chairman and managing director of BEML, the two organisations are now working together with a foreign firm for building and supplying 155 mm, 52 calibre tracked gun.

BEML supported the CVRDE in development of Arjun tank sub-systems, documentation and other activities.

The new centre is being set up for better and faster coordination between BEML and CVRDE. BEML will depute 18 engineers to work at the new centre.

so this would result in reduction of cost and we can get more powerful engine, last but not least no dependence on foreign supplier.

Can't DRDO develop a passive imaging infrared seeker for the CLGM similar to Nag ATGM??That would give the CLGM both fire and forget capability and better jamming resistance.

Are we not short on the number of tanks- considering the grave threat from Al-Khalids? Any idea on the quality of Chineese tanks .. quantity wise the Chinees should be ahead.

Al Khalid is not the best tank in Pakistan inventory, T-80UD (Object 478BE) is the greates threat out there.

Al Khalid have many not good design solutions, typical for all Chinese designs.

i think T-90 is Powerful or Superior to T-80UD!!!
so did the IA brought T-90 and building them 1000+ tanks.
