I do not think it is an issue that can not be resolved quickly... Arjun had already fired missile some years back... Hope it does not affects the scheduled induction as planned...

Re: Arjun MK-2 tanks facing Smokey driver chamber in latest tests

seems so, also, it could be a fume extractor issue?
well, a bore evacuator is a fume extractor installed on the gun barrel, that uses the pressure of the gun firing to vent the fumes out the front of the barrel instead of the gases escaping into the turret.
shouldn't be a big issue to fix, could be the fume extractor hole is too small and getting clogged with residue from the gun being fired.

they have done this before successfully.

afaik, the issue wasn't firing the missile from the gun, it was guiding it towards the target. they had a lot of issues marrying the gunners primary sight with the guidance complex.

We will know in due time ..

Options are >>

1. Cummins 1500hp
2. DRDO / OFB 1500hp
3. Ukrainian 1500HP
4. French 1500HP
I am aware of Cummins engine proposal and Ukrainian engine. What engine are DRDO/OFB proposing ?, I haven't come across any material regarding that for Mk-2. The only DRDO 1500 hp engine I have read about is for FMBT (projected requirement of 1240 engines) which is in the preliminary stages. Aren't the Mk-2 prototypes running on the same 1400 bhp MTU engine ?

It is planned that it will be fitted with a 1500hp engine, DRDO & OFB working with A&L for it ..

At present the Prototypes are running with uprated 1400hp engines ..

Why isn't DRDO producing a formal proposal of Arjun MkIII (FMBT) before Armata is displayed and MoD starts running after it?

If they did then people would be bitching about them not sorting out mk 1 and mk 2 and having flights of fantasy about mk 3.

For eg:- why are the Dredos running after mk 3 when mk 1 isn't working properly and mk 2 is nowhere in sight. They should focus on delivery of mk 1 and mk 2 before starting work on mk 3 ;)

Who told you mk-1 is not working properly?

It already performed better in trials with much better accuracy in on the move firing and much lower ground pressure per sq inch enabling it to cross areas where T-90 will sink and can stand desert heat with no AC due to ample space and good ventilation inside, while T-90 crew faint in heat stroke in hot indian desert conditions.

SO what more should it do? Stand on it's gun?

Haven't you read the info posted in Arjun mk-1 thread that 79 of the 93 improvements suggested by IA for mk-2 has already been validated ?

It is the IA that is sabotaging Arjun with modernizing old moth T-72s and not ordering a few hundred more Arjun mk-1s saying only mk-2 will satisfy them.

All the while ordering thousands more T-72s that will maim it's own tank men in rajasthan desert heat with heat strokes because of the cramped interiors and inadequate ventilation.

Have they stopped giving fresh orders for T-90s till the russians have sorted out this problem. Apparently not, they are still floating tenders fro external AC to mitigate the heat.

The power sapped by AC will further worsen the already worse sub standard power to weight ratio of T-90 compared to Arjun mk-1.

New Delhi: Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has agreed to modify LAHAT ( LAser Homing ATtack) laser-guided Missile for use on India's Arjun Tank Mk2. The move comes after the trials of LAHAT Missile from Arjun Tank Mk2, which found the missile emitting more smoke than desired, leading to more than acceptable levels of smoke inside the tank. LAHAT Missile was designed primarily to be fired by Israeli made Merkava tanks' 105 mm and 120 mm tank guns. The range of the missile is about 6 Km, with a length of just one meter and weight of less than 13 kg. DRDO sources point out that the name LAHAT does not mean it is the same specs as what Israeli's are using and it has to be modified for customers use.

Speaking about the trials, the DRDO source said that the trials have been completed and the MK2 version has demonstrated its capabilities. Other than the smoke seepage, the customer (Indian Army) has asked for few cosmetic changes which includes the positioning of lights, tow hooks and others. The customer has asked for demonstration of all new changes before approvals
for production.
