What engine do they plan to use?
Most probably twin F 414 for prototypes....We need a true high bypass ratio turbofan for making a fifth generation engine...hope work on it is started.....

Bangalore: Scientists and aerospace designers working on India's Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) stealth programme are excited at the prospects of delivering a plane studded with gen-next technologies. Sources confirm to Express that silent R&D work has been going on in multiple centers of Defence Research and Development Organisation, Indian Institute of Technology, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and select private industries.

The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), spearheading the AMCA mission, are ready with a scaled-down model (1:8) to be put up during Aero India, giving the world a first-time peek into the shape of things lined for the future. The AMCA's weapon menu is being packed with BVR (Beyond Visual Range) missile and other precision-guided bombs. The internal bay has adequate space to accommodate enough weapons, promising high-speed release. It will have the required maneuver, climb and acceleration capabilities to engage the enemy in a close combat.
The aircraft will have adequate un-refueled range on its internal fuel alone (the capacity to carry more fuel), thereby enabling it to cover theaters that are significant from the tactical point of view. "Internal carriage of a mix of air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons will enable the aircraft to swing the role in stealth mode if required. A substantial carriage capability on its external hard points will allow the aircraft to carry out regular missions of conventional fighters in later phases of a campaign including maritime operations," sources said.
The critical stealth technologies that are currently being developed include: radar absorbing structures and paints, body conformal antennae with shared aperture, flush air data sensors and frequency selective surface (FSS) radome. "The serpentine intake promises very less signature throwing to enemy radars. The aircraft can penetrate deep into enemy territory without being detected," sources claimed.

AMCA (1:8) scaled-down model will be on display at Bangalore, Aero India 2013- aviation exhibition & air show.

DFI members who are going there , Try to get the photo of AMCA model at every possible angle.

The Single piece canopy glass is a welcome while the static tail with rudder control seems like a less risky design to begin with :hmm:
I hope they dont keep the retractable refuelling pod and IRST pods as latter accessories such as the infamous mk.II versions :fu:

I was thinking of a tail-less design but after all it's a combat fighter, needs rudders. Anyway! the design is looking promising to me, our experience in LCA project, RAM materials, aerodynamic designing may help us to complete it within time. But again the "Supercruise" engine will be a headache for us, except it other menu goals appear viable.

In 5-10 yrs the F-22 might look like a beach ball in future radars... but maneuverability will be needed always!!!

My wish for AMCA is Su-27 type thrust vectored post stall maneuverability...

Fingers crossed, but if K-10 is not ready and we cant make such an engine, a home made AMCA with thrust vectored Russian turbojet would also be fine IMHO...

Please disjoint thrust vectoring and post stall manoeuvrability.
Thrust vectoring has advantages in low speed high aoa manoeuvres, depending on the airframe. It is also claimed as to spare fuel while ranging.
Post stall manoeuvres do not depend only on thrust vectoring (other planes did perform it) and worse, mean you completely lost energy. If you miss your first shoot you are just a sitting duck.
Thats why thrust vectoring can be a powerful tool (again depending on airframe) in WVR combat, but ONLY in the hands of high skilled vet pilots.

Makes the engine lighter thus giving higher TWR.
Last checked a High Bypass ratio is feasible for requirements which demands good fuel economy or say thrust specific fuel consumption.
While low bypass turbo fans deliver a high power to weight ratio at the expense in fuel economy.

Commercial airlines are usually a high bypass turbofan, cause fuel economy is the factor
while military jets are usually low bypass configuration cause power is the factor their
Their are some examples where low bypass configuration are interchanged with no bypass configuration making the jet propulsion act as turbojet, that can be an idea but it have its own merits and demerits, but Indian turbofan designs are not that matured enough to take that kind of risk, again high bypass turbofan designs are bulky too, it can make the engine look as big as a commercial airliners engine.

Even the F-119 is a low bypass config or the 117s that is expected to be fitted in PAK-FA.

I wonder why a DSI port is not used, it seems like fixed geometry duct and DSI is an improvement for fixed geometry intake design or as it known around the fanboy internet world :troll:

Sounding very ambitious, I am sure this will be another assembled aircraft.

Assembled with 80 per cent imported assemlies, higher costs, 50 years delayed and lots of lots of photos.....

Things are not changing with time. Only photos and dreams are changing....
