MoU signed
The agreement includes the potential joint production of GE Aerospace’s F414 engines in India, and GE Aerospace continues to work with the US government to receive the necessary export authorization for this. The effort is part of the Indian Air Force’s Light Combat Aircraft Mk2 program: GE Aerospace
Looks like beyond all the drama they've done over the past few weeks, it's still the same old Americ*nt trickery and hot-air.
Anyway if they want to string us around, we can string them too, no 30 Predators deal till GE signs a contract with HAL and starts producing engines here :troll:

Its just MoU @Vamsi . Seems some things have yet to agree on. This is just face saver for Indian govt for item which was hyped so much before visit.
You can't have an agreement without Congress approval & certification by the President. The next step would be to introduce a bill in the House of Representatives get it passed , then move the Senate , get it passed there , place it before the President for it to become an Act after which you'd have a formal agreement.

If they were serious, much of above would have taken place before modi visited US.

The truth is this is probably some screwdriver-giri agreement with extra steps, we don't get sanctions-proof, we don't get to make all the high tech engine components from scratch, but maybe only the "spare parts" tier items that have to be replaced in regular MRO over the course of the fighter jet/engine's service life.

Only way out of this is to pour money into, buy up all the supporting infra like test-beds and all and ressurect the Kaveri engine since nobody is going to give us complete ToT over modern jet engines, nobody gave us tech for ICBMs either. we rolled our own.

I also have no idea about why these Americunts engage in all these bullshit theatrics when their behavior is just the same as it was in the Obama era towards sharing tech with us, which is only jhumlebaazi with no results being delivered.

This won't happen and it will be by design, they will have some more onerous T&C they'll want GoI to accept, and GoI will tell them to fuck off, just like the years past.

For all you know this an elaborate ploy by State Department and (((friends))) to show the Pentagon/DoD faction their place :bplease:

We have signed them plenty of times.. with GE.

If we ever wanted to expedite it.. simply ask Russian for the same with their new fifth gen engine etc..

Or atleast let Safran design the one for Tejas and co. GE will itself come crawling for the pie this way or other.

1st domestically made F414 isn't coming before 2026. The 8 F414s would make a couple of LCA Mk. 2 prototypes and 2 AMCA prototypes.

I have a theory, may sound far-fetched, but here goes -
GoI is reluctant to fund Kaveri engine dev esp. for integration into Tejas, because it would mean more delays
and any problem means UNAF gernails will point fingers and try to scuttle Tejas and harp on more imports and MMRCA. So to keep Tejas and fighter dev eco-system from getting destroyed, GoI decided to balance the parties and go with GE deal , since till now GE F404 has performed great without problems on Tejas Mk1. This will prevent dalal and lobby from finding excuses to shut down Tejas manufacturing.

However note that I am in no way supporting underfunding of Kaveri engine as a standalone project (with integration into Tejas at a later time).
