There is whole hog of equipment we can buy from American other than fighter jets.

Armed drones / predators , more p8i with harpoons. MH 60 with naval strike missile. More m777 ulh howitzer , more chinooks etc. Things others don't have and are very useful.

Trade deficit doesn't mean we will tolerate CASTAA. No frontline US fighter because of end user restrictions.

Anyway f18 can't fit in either vikad or Vikrant lifts. So f18 is out even on technical grounds.
If you are right on technical grounds, then the navy would be stupid to consider them.

As far as CAATSA goes, sanctions are more , not less likely if we pick American platforms. That's common sense. They are not going to sanction themselves. However international diplomacy is pretty much like this, the Russians, the Chinese, the French, everyone does this. The Americans are blatant about it, that's all.

Our military deals with USA are already in billions even without f18 they will anyway grow !

So with or without f18 American are sanctioning there own business with India that's why they keep issuing waivers .

France and Russia haven't objected to Indian trade with other countries . In fact both supported India even after pokhran blast.

The idea that France and Russia dont have objections isnt factual, they just demonstrate it differently. Do you believe all the talk that comes out of nowhere of Russia selling Pakistan weapon systems or Putin visiting are not connected to Indian actions? Or the drama that might happen in the UNSC.?

Its nor about the present size of our defense deals , it's about the pressure to reduce the deficit . With the limited funds we have, all this talk of buying the Rafale and then buying other things from the US is hardly practical. Boeing and LM are pretty much the biggest lobbies a country can have in the US, logic follows that we are prudent.

More C-130s, chinooks and M-777s for formidable air lift power against China...
It's a shame that US is closing C-17 production line...

USA does all that alredy. Castaa and sanctions are over and above the usual theatrics. USA supplies f16 to Pak that too on subsidy. USA racks up freedom in Kashmir when Russia completely supports Indian move.

Even without castaa USA does far more anti India activity than either Russia or France. What's the need for castaa then??

Caasa is not directed at India, a loophole was carved almost specifically for India but like smart businessmen, they are trying to see if they can get some orders too by using Caatsa.

The fact remains that we have a healthy trade surplus and we dont need any more headaches on the trade front since we in an economic rough patch already. I happen to believe that India's best interests are served by mitigating this defecit problem and this would help.

Deficit won't go away. Indian manufacturing and service both will rise much faster and Stronger than USA and will always be cheaper. The only way to reduce deficit is to reduce overall trade not gonna happen. American know it and we know it. It can be minimised a bit but military purchase on per year basis are too small for this.

Barely 57 f18 are 10 billion USD over 10 years that is 1 billion per year only . Changes nothing in overall equation. We might as well but something that suits us like p8i and Chinook which are unique in their role and sanctions proof in the way they operate .

Precisely why the F18 has an advantage . Add to that the factor of trade surplus that I have already mentioned about, it would require extraordinary circumstances to not select that platform.

An additional order for Rafale does nothing for India in the geopolitical arena. An F18 order would allow for better balancing.
In a without Trump America maybe.

Please no... keep this juvenile stuff to yourself. I hope you read the links you post.

Software fixes / logistic issue fixes are common to any cutting edge technology.

None of these issues have hampered sales or induction of F-35. More F-35 were made in 2017-2019 than Rafales in last 20 years! This year, more F-35 will be made than Rafale in next 10 years!

There are over1400 F-35 orders and customers are lining up. Total is going to be north of 3000!! All the air forces getting F-35 are top class nations with access to everything and they chose F-35. Why don’t you go to their defense forums to present a case for Rafale instead of F-35. Let us know if anyone is interested..

So stop making fool out of yourself by quoting click bait news and comparing a 5th gen fighter with expensive Cold War relics like Rafale and Eurofighter. It’s like comparing a flip phone with an iPhone X. There is no comparison.

PS: Dassault can enjoy selling Rafale to nations that can’t get F-35.

Far far away.. lol. You have zero knowledge and yet act like expert on defense issues.

On your 737 jibe, 787 was also grounded in 2012. Today, it is selling like hot cake.

Hasn't 737 max production has been closed . It's probably an untouchable now.

Not a fair comparison. Since USA aircraft requirements are far larger than France.

With 1700-2000 aircraft required it doesn't matter what USA build the plane will be regarded successful by numbers anyway and price will be low just by sheer scale.

And most of the f35 criticism has come from watchdogs in the USA itself which have officially labeled program filled with delays and shortcomings despite massive scale.

Anyway whatever the issue f35 has to succeed for USA because there is no alternative. Over a trillion dollars are on the line. It's too big a program.

It is a very fair comparison. Air Forces around the world buy what’s 1. Available 2. Affordable 3. Required.
The cheapest way to do all that is usually the best.

Hasn't 737 max production has been closed . It's probably an untouchable now.
production is suspended due to issues with cash flow and parking spots. There are 5000 orders for 737 MAX and no cancellations. Production will resume once grounding is lifted. Not a fan of 737 management though. They should have launched a new design in 2011.

F-35 issues are not shocking- they get discussed more because US grants more access to media than Russia, China or even European nations in defense matters. What usually is a classified internal review in most countries, tends to be a common knowledge in US.

Just because you hear more about F-35 doesn’t mean that Chinese, French or Russians are not having problems with their products. They don’t discuss those issues in public.

Follow the money- who is selling their jets like hot cakes?
