QUAD as a military alliance was pretty frivolous from the begining. It is aimed at South China Sea trying to supress the ever increasing Chink Ganndmasti there. The countries involved is USA, Japan and Australia, who already have military alliance.

As far as Indian Ocean is concerned US views India with the same way as they view China in SCS, and US wants to preserve its hegemonic ways in Indian Ocean.

As far as Himalayan border LAC with China is concerned none of US, Japan, Australia is concerned. It is our own headache.

India has ratified the Convention, which came into force in 1994, but there is rich irony in the fact that amongst the 168 nations who have either acceded to or ratified UNCLOS 1982, the US is conspicuous by its absence. The UN Secretariat has not charged any country with the role of overseeing or enforcing the implementation of UNCLOS.

there is another incident that is happening in SCS while this FONOP fiasco was happening..

PLA has sent missile catamarans to Philippines to spartly islands area, obviously following the same modus operandi as before. send fishing boats first, followed by coast guard and military boats, and occupy and create a new island.

which can be inferred as every move PLA makes has a purpose, in this case territorial land grab.

on the other hand pentagon is more keen to do symbolic military moves rooted in previous Cold War tactics to justify their 700 billion $ budget, which does nothing but inflate egos of a few senators.

in essence, PLA doing practical moves with a practical purpose and pentagon doing symbolic moves.
