The United States Has Indicated To Lease Or Sell A Nuclear Submarine To Australia

US floats nuclear subs option

PUBLISHED: 23 hours 40 MINUTES AGO | UPDATE: 12 hours 54 MINUTES AGO

John Kerin

The United States has indicated for the first time it would be willing to lease or sell a nuclear submarine to Australia in a move that will inflame tensions with China and force the Coalition to declare its policy on bolstering regional defence.

US Ambassador to Australia Jeffrey Bleich told The Australian Financial Review yesterday that whichever option Canberra pursued as a replacement for its Collins class submarines, Washington viewed Australia's subs program as crucial to security in the Asia-Pacific region.

"Decisions about the design of the Australian submarine are up to Australia's leaders, including whether they pursue diesel power or nuclear power," Mr Bleich said. "Whatever they decide the US is willing to help.''

First Marines stationed in Australia and now Nuclear Subs. Australia is stepping forward to march in tandem with the US.

Uncle Sam can bend any rule
Whether it is with the UN, or it is with the MTCR or even the nuclear deal.

True maybe getting the nuke subs were equal. But comparing it with every other rule that USA could bend.
USA sold the Trident2 nuclear ballistic missile to UK
USA also sold the Tomahawk Cruise missile 3000km range exceeding the MTCR guidelines to UK.
Also a close look at the IndoUS nuclear deal, can tell they can do much more, but it never progressed.

US Ambassador to Australia Jeffrey Bleich told The Australian Financial Review yesterday that whichever option Canberra pursued as a replacement for its Collins class submarines...
The other option is this:

Collins class submarine replacement project - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Collins class submarine replacement project is a Royal Australian Navy (RAN) effort to replace the Navy's six Collins class submarines with 12 new Australian designed submarines from 2025. At an estimated cost of up to A$25 billion, the project may be the most expensive defence acquisition ever undertaken by the Australian Government...The new class of submarines is expected to be a unique Australian design rather than a variant of an existing foreign design.[3] While the Navy's study will consider all submarine options, including the acquisition of nuclear powered submarines, it is expected that the final design will be a larger, quieter, faster and better armed version of the Collins class.

The nuclear deal with India will probably be pursued again under a different administration?
Every country does things in their interest.China with Pak, USA/Russia with India and US
with NATO allies. During the Bush administration when there was a feeling of a threat of
a chinese invasion of Taiwan it was rumored USA sent nuke fuses to Taiwan.

US Sent Taiwan Nuke Fuses By Mistake

Australians would sell natural resources to China in bulk and buy security from US. Well, good going till now but the real game is yet to begin.

So the newest and largest state of the union in the making?

The Chinese will be mighty pissed off, they have plans to inundate Australia and claim it for themselves. Personally I thought since they are the closest Commonwealth ally of the UK, it would become the UK's territory. But now looks like they are leaning towards the US.

USN only operates Nuclear Subs, am I wrong?

So whether they lease or sell any unit, it will be nuclear powered.

What we are missing is the armament this sub will have.

Stop whinig, If India wants to be top dog, it has to act like it. If you are uber hyper power, then yes USA can do it. Suck it up. We should be learning how to use USA to our advantage without loosing our integrity.

Anything irresponsible and illegal to give a nuke sub?

Russia has given one to India.

Irresponsible and illegal, is it?

Kevin Rudd's innocent or intentional (to alarm his Chinese masters) public disclosure that there are talks going on between India-USA-AU for a security pact (outrightly denied by India for obvious reasons) fits the maze correct with such developments.

BTW Australia will be concerned about rising China and India both, less about the later though.

Do we have Russian marines stationed in India? If yes we are Russian territory, if not then no.

I behave like no one but myself. The crap I post is based on my wisdom or lack of it. Thanks.
You mean like our Aiyni Base in Tajikistan?
So we will never have bases in the future? So Vietnamese have to hang their head in shame, when we are there.
We had something worse than Russian Marines on our soil once, we were controlled by Soviet Union, You should read more about Indira's and Rajiv's PMO's. Disgusting.
If you think, we would be any different to the Americans when we have that much power, then you are being extremely silly.
