Shooting: Elavenil Valarivan and Apurvi Chandela fail to qualify for the 10m Air Rifle final
Indian shooters Elavenil Valarivan and Apurvi Chandela finished in 16th place and 36th, respectively, in the 10m Air Rifle competition. Valarivan, who made her Olympian debut, scored a 626.5 qualification over six series of 10 shots each, whilst Chandela aggregated 621.9 at the Asaka Shooting Rage.

Sometimes it is selection of sports in Olympics which causes India to win less. And not the lack of sporting culture in India.
Athletics and swimming heavily dominate the olympics tallies. 93/306 medals at Rio Olympics were for that. Plus 40 more for canoeing, sailing and rowing.

That's 40% medals just for two things.

Lack of swimming infrastructure hurts India badly. Even in most developed regions of Delhi/NCR, it is hard to find Olympics level swimming pools or training. And even if they are there, wait time is too high due to demand-supply gap.

When India got a chance to select the sports, as in Commonwealth Games 2010, it finished ahead of UK. Something which took China 50+ years to achieve, and could not replicate in 2016 Rio Olympics.

Sports which India play (Kabbadi, cricket) are given 0 medals. Sports which Japan/china play (Judo) are given 14 medals.

Sports culture is prevalent but the thing is that Khelo India is a joke, I mean when I go to cities I see no one interested in playing anymore but into smartphone bs.

Commonwealth Games are joke. We keep participating in mediocre games we will become mediocre.

China wins over 200 medals in each Asian games and we become happy wining over 50 medals there.

And it is not like we are not investing money on athletes, for Tokyo Olympics, RS Rathore had made team of over 100 athletes who were given continuous money and training in best of best facilities in the country but they still end up failing. See the Infamous Deepika Kumari whos excuse each time is "I could not adjust to the environment!"

Indian women hockey team now playing with world number 1 nederland . 3 times olympic gold medal and 11 times world champianship . 1st half has been beyound my expectations .. 1 - 1 right now . Nederland got 4 penalty corner but was defended all of it ..
Even if india looses from now on i must say the way these girls are playing against a legendary team is outstanding .
